When most people think of cosmetic breast surgery, a breast lift is not the first procedure that comes to mind. However, you may find that this procedure, to permanently lift your breasts, is well-suited for you, due to any of these reasons:

1. Your Breasts Sag Due to Aging

Most breasts sag with aging and a breast lift can correct this sagging. Not only will your breasts then appear perkier and more youthful, but, depending on their size, you may find that your shoulders and neck ache less or not at all because they will no longer be strained in order to support the sagging breasts. You will also be able to stop relying entirely on highly supportive bras to achieve an attractive shape in your breasts.

2. Your Breasts Sag Due to Weight Gain or Loss

Significant weight gain or weight loss can cause your breasts to stretch with excess tissue and sag. At this point, breasts that once appeared full and rounded can become elongated and triangular, often with the aerolae and nipples sticking out at the tip of the breasts aimed downwards (instead of attractively centered in the middle). A surgical breast lift procedure may be the only option you have to get rid of excess tissue and reshape your breasts into a rounded, more self-supportive shape.

3. Your Breasts Sag Post-Pregnancy

Pregnancy is another frequent factor for producing sagging breasts, as they engorge slightly to prepare for breastfeeding and then may have excess tissue that causes them to droop once you've finished breastfeeding. A lift can correct the sagging of your breasts post-pregnancy, but it is best performed once you've finished breastfeeding, as you'll need several weeks to convalesce before your can use your breasts for feeding again.

If you hope to have more children in the future and are worried about whether or not you'll be able to breastfeed again, you can rest assured that most of the time, a surgeon can perform a lift and even reposition the aerolae and nipples entirely while maintaining breastfeeding functions. Just be aware that your breasts may droop again after another pregnancy.

4. Your Breasts Are Elliptical Genetically

Some women are just born with the genes for elongated, elliptical breasts that appear similar to sagging breasts that other women get over time. If you have sufficient mass in your breasts, but they're in an elongated, elliptical shape (most often with the aerolae and nipples right at the tip of the breast and facing somewhat downward), you may be a candidate for a breast lift as soon as your breasts have stopped developing (usually in your early 20s).

5. Your Breasts Lack Firmness

Whether due to genetics, aging, post-pregnancy or weight loss or gain, women with breasts that lack firmness and require highly supportive bras to shape into the ideal round, perky shape may be candidates for a lift. A lift can help tighten breasts that are without firmness so that they rely less or don't rely at all on bras to help shape them.

You don't have to want smaller or larger breasts to benefit from a breast lift. If any of the above reasons have made you more interested in the procedure, make an appointment with a cosmetic surgeon with experience in the lift procedure to discuss your possible candidacy.
