There are many myths and facts when it comes to breast augmentation. If you are considering a breast augmentation, it is best to have all of the facts before going through with it.

Myth 1: Any Surgeon Can Perform a Breast Augmentation

Fact: Not all surgeons are trained to perform breast augmentations. You should find a qualified plastic surgeon that you are comfortable with. You should see his work and ask as many questions as you need to. If you do not feel comfortable, find another doctor.

Myth 2: Implants Should Always Be Placed under the Muscle

Fact: The placement of the implant depends on the woman. It may be necessary to place the implant over the muscle for some women, and for others, it will need to be placed under the muscle. Your doctor will be able to suggest the right placement for your implants.

Myth 3: Women Can't Breastfeed after Receiving Implants

Fact: The truth is women can breastfeed after receiving implants with no problems. The silicone does not get into the milk supply, therefore it does not affect the baby. If you are planning on having a baby after receiving implants, make sure the surgeon does not cut the milk duct. If that happens, then it would be impossible to breast feed.

Myth 4:  There Is a Certain Number of cc's in Each Cup Size

Fact: Cup sizes vary for everyone. It also depends on the amount of breast tissue each woman has. One woman may need 300 cc to make a D cup, but another woman may only need 250 cc because of the difference in breast tissue. Your doctor will be able to tell you about how many cc's you will need.

Myth 5:  Implants Will Last Forever

Fact: Even with the technology today, there is no guarantee that the implants will last forever. There is always the chance that they will need to be replaced for one reason or another.

Myth 6: Implants Will Make the Breasts Sag Earlier

Fact: The implants have nothing to do with when your breasts will begin to sag. Every woman is different, and when your breasts begin to sag depends on your body. The best way prevent early sagging is to wear a good, supportive bra whether you have implants or not.

Myth 7: The Incisions Are Always in the Same Place

Fact: The placement of the incision will depend on the implants chosen and the technique used by the surgeon. The incision scars are usually only as visible as a stretch mark. By using Vitamin E oil, you can also reduce some scarring and the appearance of stretch marks.

Myth 8:  If the Implant Ruptures, It Can Make You Sick

Fact: This is not true. Implants are made of saline, so if the implant leaks or ruptures, your body will just absorb the saline. The saline is not harmful.

There are many myths when it comes to breast implants. Your doctor will be able to clear up any questions you have.
