To be a fitting candidate for hair replacement, you will have to meet a few qualifications that will increase the procedure's chances of long-term success. You may be a candidate for the procedure if you feel you meet both of the following criteria:

You Have Some Hair Left

Unfortunately, hair replacement does not work for those who are completely bald, so it can't help those who have lost most or all of their hair due to illness. For this procedure to work, you need to have at least 1/3 of your scalp covered in healthy hair. The more hair you have to begin with, the more successful the treatment will be.

Hair transplantation involves transplanting your healthy hair follicles to balding or thinning areas of the scalp, where these hair follicles will then take root and grow. While sometimes a donor's hair is used, replacing the entire scalp with hair is too involved a procedure, so you must still have some hair for the procedure to work.

You're Not in the Early Stages of Balding

To be able to successfully transplant hair, your medical professional will have to evaluate which type of balding pattern you follow. This is usually impossible when a patient is in the early stages of balding, so you may not be a candidate if you're under 30 or have just started losing hair.

If you think you qualify, discuss hair replacement with your physician, dermatologist or cosmetic specialist for a more thorough examination of your candidacy.
