The forehead lift, also known as a brow lift, is a rejuvenating procedure that may also be used to reconstruct the face. With aging skin, the skin--particularly on the forehead--can become weak, causing deep wrinkles. A forehead lift enhances and smoothens the skin, leading to a more youthful appearance.

Although a forehead lift is not a permanent fix, it usually lasts 5 to 10 years, and the procedure may be repeated. Most individuals who request to have this cosmetic surgery done are in their 40s to 60s. The forehead lift treats the following conditions:

Vision Impairment

Vision can become impaired from brows that are too low, obstructing the ability to see. Because the brows for men start lower on the forehead, they may have more difficulties with vision problems from this cosmetic defect, more than women. A forehead lift is beneficial to correct and restore proper vision.

The coronal forehead lift is commonly used to lift the brows for this purpose, and to lift the whole forehead. With this lifting technique, an ear to ear incision is performed.

Deep Wrinkles

A forehead lift can be performed to correct deep wrinkles. A mid-forehead lift is usually done to diminish these deep folds in the skin. It involves making incisions inside the wrinkles themselves. Excess muscle, fat and skin are removed. The procedure is normally performed on individuals who are over 65 years of age.

Migraines

Migraines, including symptoms of throbbing pain and nausea, can be treated with a forehead lift. The August 2009 Issue of the ‘Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery’ shows a report indicating 83 percent of the people who were in the study had a 50 percent reduction of migraines, and 57 percent stopped the migraine headaches completely.

Drooping Eyebrows

Sagging eyebrows and puffy eyelids can give an appearance of being tired or angry. A forehead lift or “brow lift” is a great way to fix eyebrows that are drooping to create a more youthful and healthy appearance.
