Vaginal rejuvenation is intended to tighten the vaginal walls after they have been stretched through giving birth. The muscles of the vagina lose tone and can become loose and difficult to contract, reducing sexual pleasure and sometimes leading to other problems.

Initial Results of Vaginal Rejuvenation

Initially, a patient who has undergone vaginal rejuvenation will have to go through a recovery period to allow incisions to heal. This recovery period can last several weeks--usually six to eight. During that time, the patient must abstain from sexual activity and also avoid tampon use. The incisions must be kept clean to prevent infection. The doctor will prescribe medication to prevent infection and to manage post operative pain and discomfort. Initially, there will be swelling and redness in the area, which will make it difficult to see what the final results might look and feel like.

Long Term Results of Vaginal Rejuvenation

As healing progresses and swelling goes down, the patient will be able to see and feel the changes in her body. The vagina will be tighter and the muscles of the vaginal walls will be firmer and should be easier to contract. Patients who have suffered from urinary incontinence will often find this to be much less of a problem.

After the six to eight week recovery period, the patient may resume sexual activity. She should have increased sensation during sex, and might find it easier to reach climax. Her partner will probably also notice the difference, as the muscles will be tighter and firmer. Overall, problems associated with the stretched and damaged muscles of the vagina and pelvic floor should diminish.
