Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that is gradually increasing in popularity among men. The procedure is a valuable tool for weight loss and body sculpting. Despite diet and exercise, fat deposits in certain areas of the body remain and are hard to shed. Liposuction surgeons insert a hallow tube that is attached to a suction device and essentially scrape away the fat beneath the skin.

Problem Areas for Men

Several areas of the male body can benefit from liposuction. Excess fat around the hips, commonly called love handles, and excess fat on the abdomen can be removed with liposuction. A condition called gynecomastia is characterized by abnormal growth of the male breast. It results from a buildup of fat or glandular tissue in the breast area. Liposuction through small incisions can reduce the breast size.

Cost of Liposuction for Men

Liposuction procedures are more expensive for men than for women. Male fat is more dense than female fat and the problem areas in men, such as the chest and abdomen, are more fibrous than female problem areas. As a result, longer liposuction sessions are required for men in order to remove the unwanted fat. Surgery costs can be as high as $7,500 for individual areas such as the abdomen and breasts.
