In order to determine if you are a good candidate for cheek implant surgery, your surgeon will evaluate your current medical condition and past medical history. There are some conditions that might disqualify you as a candidate for cheek implants.

Current Medical Conditions

You will not be considered a good candidate if you suffer from bone disease. Cheek implants are often affixed to the cheek bone, and bone disintegration can affect the placement of the implant.

If you suffer from uncontrolled diabetes, your body may not be able to heal normally. This could lead to complications and infections. Your surgeon will decide if you are a suitable candidate. Your surgeon may also consider you a higher risk if you suffer from a heart condition, uncontrolled high blood pressure or respiratory problems.

If you are on blood thinning medications, you may be at a higher risk of bleeding. These medications prevent clotting and this could lead to complications during and after the surgical procedure.

Let your doctor know if you have had any allergic reactions to medications, anesthesia or injectable products. Your surgeon will use this information to form an evaluation.

Medical Conditions that Could Affect Results

Your skin must have enough tone and elasticity to undergo the procedure. Skin that has minimal tone, scarring and trauma may not be able to properly heal and stretch over the implant.

Also, you should not undergo surgery if you are currently using isotretinoin drugs to treat acne. This can increase your risk of increased facial bone growth and the possible development of keloid scarring.

In order to qualify as a candidate for cheek implant surgery, you must be in generally good mental and physical health. Discuss any past or current medical conditions with your surgeon.
