Any surgery comes with risks and the possibility of complications during and after the procedure; the same holds true for forehead lift surgery. However, many complications during surgery and after can be reduced by following your doctor’s orders, instructions, and by being completely honest with your doctor prior to surgery.
Medical History
Not all medical conditions will automatically make you a bad candidate for forehead lift surgery. Your surgeon will take into account each of your medical conditions and decide, on an individual patient basis, if your medical condition would interfere with the surgery or the healing of the procedure. It is important you tell him your full medical history.
Medical Conditions
Some important medical conditions your surgeon needs to be aware of are:
- bleeding problems
- history of blood clots
- hypertension (high blood pressure)
- diabetes
- reaction to anesthetics
- auto-immune diseases
A list of all prescription, OTC, vitamins and herbal supplements you currently take are also very important for the surgeon to have.
Prior to Surgery
It is not common that your forehead lift will be scheduled soon after your consult; in fact, the date of surgery may be weeks or even months after your forehead lift surgery consult. Your doctor will recommend you quit smoking prior to surgery. Your doctor will also tell you that “x” amount of days or weeks prior to surgery, you should skip certain medications such as Aspirin (can cause bleeding problems), NSAID drugs, and certain vitamins and herbal supplements.
Your surgeon needs to know ALL of your past and present medical history and medications you take so that he can make an informed decision on your eligibility, as well as know what he is dealing with in the operating room. It is important to be honest so that no major surprises are met by either of you during or after the forehead lift surgery.
