Cosmetic nose surgery in order to reshape it into a more appealing form is known as rhinoplasty. Both surgical and nonsurgical rhinoplasty procedures are available. In the surgical nose job, small-sized incisions are created both inside and outside the nose. Underlying cartilage and bones are then reshaped in order to modify the nose's shape and size. Nonsurgical nose jobs are, however, gaining popularity as a superficial and less invasive process.

This process uses one of the many injectable fillers of tissue that have been approved by the FDA. These include Juvederm, Radiesse, Restylane and Perlane. The injectable used by the plastic surgeon is inserted into the nose. The result is a nose altered in shape, as per the patient's requirements. 

The main advantage in a nonsurgical nose procedure is the fact that it only takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete. Little or no swelling occurs after the surgery. It's considered quick and painless. For patients with a tiny bump on the nose bridge, short tips or slightly droopy tips, it works quite well. However, these injections cannot reduce the size of the nose. Furthermore, the results only last from four to seven months.


Nose Surgery

Cosmetic experts say that if the patient wishes to achieve long-lasting changes in nose shape, surgical rhinoplasty is the preferred method. Contrary to the nonsurgical procedure, nose width and length can be shortened in surgery.

Breathing issues and nasal asymmetry problems can be easily removed during nose surgery. Overall, superior results and more noticeable changes of shape can be brought about with nose surgery for reshaping.


The Verdict

In general, nose surgery is believed to produce better results. The pros and cons of the two methods of rhinoplasty will be weighed before the patient and doctor reach a final decision on the best treatment option for a particular patient. Depending on the complications of the case, financial capability, circumstances and many other factors, nonsurgical nose jobs may occasionally be more suitable than the other.
