Chin surgery is a common cosmetic procedure used to correct a receding chin. A qualified surgeon may either move or reshape a bone or place implants to correct the problem. One procedure that can be done in addition to chin surgery is fat injection--a procedure in which a certain amount of fat is obtained from part of a patient’s body and transferred to other parts that need repair. Fat injection has its pros and cons.

Pros

Fat injection can be given to the person who is desirable to get a balanced chin look. By injecting fat into the chin, the person will have a tightened chin. Moreover, the use of fat as an implant eliminates the risk of graft rejection. This is because the fat implant is taken from the person’s own body. Furthermore, fat injection procedures are not overly invasive; thus, they free the person from potential adverse effects that may be created from the invasive surgery.

Cons

Fat injections are more complicated than the use of dermal fillers. The use of fat injections to correct chin problems is not for everyone as it has its potential effects. The person may experience discomforts due to developing fat embolism, discoloration, bleeding and distortion due to overcorrection. However, these effects are rare.

The common consequence is that fat injections can be absorbed back to the body. This means that the procedure will not have a permanent effect as compared to the use of synthetic and biological implants. Thought this does not always happen, there is a 50 percent chance that it will take place.
