LAP-BAND® is a procedure that can help overweight people to lose weight in a healthy manner. LAP-BAND® is not a slimming procedure, but will facilitate weight loss by limiting the capacity of the stomach. The patient will eat less and should lose weight. The LAP-BAND® surgery can be combined with several other procedures to speed up the weight loss and enhance the effects of LAP-BAND®.

Liposuction Treatments

LAP-BAND® is a procedure that is typically recommended for patients that have great amounts of fat to reduce and these cannot be removed, not even with traditional liposuction, this being too dangerous. However, once the patient starts losing some weight, a liposuction treatment may be possible and may be applied to speed up the weight loss and help the patient get closer to her wanted figure.

If needed, the liposuction can be applied before the LAP-BAND® surgery, so as to remove small fat deposits from the face. Liposuction may also be used when the patient has lost the majority of the unwanted weight but has some stubborn deposits of fat that will not disappear otherwise. The patient may choose more aggressive liposuction methods, such as traditional liposuction, or less invasive procedures that are liquid assisted, ultrasound or laser assisted.

Arm Surgery

After the patient loses some weight, there may be excess skin, which may not be eliminated without a surgery. The Arm Surgery is recommended, as no other procedures will be able to eliminate the excess skin. The surgery should be performed after the patient has lost all the intended weight and has reached a stable weight. The main disadvantage of such a procedure is that it will leave a large scar on each of the arms.

Thigh Lift

A Thigh Lift may be performed if the patient has lost weight and is left with a bit of fat and a lot of excess skin on the thighs. The Thigh Lift should be performed only after the patient has lost all the extra weight, so that there will be no more excess skin after the lift is performed. The procedure is also meant to sculpt the body and give it shape.

Skin Resurfacing

If the LAP-BAND® surgery or any of the additional surgeries have left visible scars, these can be corrected using skin resurfacing methods. These will employ laser beams that will penetrate the skin and produce collagen, which will help the skin to regenerate and reduce scarring.

Facial Treatments

A massive weight loss will have a great impact on the face, as fat will also be lost from the face (and the face may be left wrinkled). There are several facial treatments that may be applied starting from a more invasive facelift, which will eliminate wrinkles and excess skin, to less aggressive dermal fillers, which will give volume and reduce wrinkles or BOTOX ® injections.

A plastic surgeon can recommend the most suitable plastic procedure according to each patient in part.
