We all know that smoking is bad for you. Most of us got the unfortunate chance to see pictures in health class of lungs damaged by years of smoking. (Some of us even had to see actual smoke-damaged lung tissue during special presentations.) It’s a serious issue, but there are also cosmetic effects of smoking that tend to get discussed less because of the more serious topics associated with the problem. The folks over at the Beverly Hills Institute pointed out some of the other effects of smoking in a recent post.
As they note, smoking can cause a significant amount of damage to the face. When you look at it simply, that gray smoke that is curling up from your lips is hitting your cheeks and can cause the skin to take on that same grayish appearance. Wrinkles on the face are also caused by smoking. You can reduce the effects of smoking using cosmetic plastic surgery designed to improve the appearance of the face. But chemical peels will only help you so much; maybe it’s time to put that cigarette away?
