If someone asked you what the biggest misconceptions are among baby boomers about plastic surgery, you might come up with an interesting array of answers. Most likely, you would assume that the older generation has a number of negative connotations associated with plastic surgery. The basic underlying thought is that although this generation is interested in anti-aging options, they have an unrealistic fear of plastic surgery.
You would be wrong.
In fact, baby boomers overwhelmingly support plastic surgery. And the misconceptions that they have about it are actually erring on the side of the surgery instead of against it. A recent study of what baby boomers think about plastic surgery found that four of the five biggest misconceptions were basically that they thought surgery would be even better and easier than it really is.
The baby boomer generation surveyed tended to think that plastic surgery would come quickly and easily. They assumed that there would be no scarring, that facial surgery would create the perfect face and that the results of the surgery would last for the rest of their lives. They also thought that simple procedures (such as a mini-facelift) would be as effective as more complex procedures (such as the full facelift).
Plastic surgery may not be quite as rosy as this generation paints it to be in their minds. But it does have benefits and baby boomers seem eager to take advantage of them.
