Stephen King says Celebrity Plastic Surgery shouldn't be News

Stephen King is famous. He's one of the most well-known authors in the nation and is getting a significant amount of attention right now as a result of The Mist. That's why TIME Magazine was interested in doing an interview with him. But in that interview King suggests that there are more important things than hearing the latest news about famous people.

Discussing who should be the TIME Magazine person of the year, King says that perhaps it should be Britney Spears. His reasoning is that this would help spark discussion about what is and isn't worthy of headline-making news. He says:

'You know, this morning, the two big stories on CNN are Kanye West's mother, who died, apparently, after having some plastic surgery. The other big thing that's going on is whether or not this cop [Drew Peterson] killed his... wife."

King goes on to point out that there are some serious social and political issues happening in Pakistan and with the Bush administration. His point is that our culture seems to have gotten its priorities mixed up in terms of what's "just gossip" and what's actually news.

We think that celebrity gossip, whether its celebrity plastic surgery news or some other celebrity issue, has its place in society. People like to take some downtime to get the goods on celebrities. But King makes some good points in his interview. You can read the complete TIME article here.
