Last year, the FDA approved a new weight loss procedure called Realize which is designed to be an alternative to the very common Lap Band Surgery. It started seeing minimal use by the end of the year but is now gaining in popularity. In addition to the technology itself, the Realize procedure comes along with a patient support system that is believed to improve the success rate of the weight loss.
"The band helps control a patient's hunger while the interactive, online system will help guide, motivate and support patients through their journey to long-term weight loss and a healthier life." (source)
Many people have found that weight loss surgery is an effective tool for rapidly reducing weight, particularly among the obese. However, some patients have been unsuccessful in keeping all of the weight off after the procedure is complete. The hope is that the online support system can assist patients in maintaining the weight loss over time.
Question of the Day: Would you be interested in a post-surgery weight loss support group?
