Reality TV Leaves Plastic Surgery Patients With Unrealistic Expectations
Plastic surgery is supposed to make people feel happier with the way that they look. However,
one report suggests that the fact that they see plastic surgery on Reality TV makes them have expectations that are impossible to meet. This may leave some people feeling unhappy rather than happier with themselves.
A good plastic surgeon should be aware of this problem in advance and should use the plastic surgery consultation to minimize the likelihood that the patient is going to be disappointed due to unrealistic expectations. It may even be better for the plastic surgeon to refuse to work on someone than to go ahead with a surgery that is clearly never going to be enough to please the patient.
As a patient, it is important to clearly articulate your expectations about the plastic surgery to your doctor. You should ask a lot of questions about the results that can be anticipated. If you are working with a doctor who acts as though the surgery will provide every miracle you desire, you may want to get a second opinion in order to form a more realistic picture of what the results of your plastic surgery will be.
Question of the Day: Is it bad for the average person that reality TV now depicts unrealistically great plastic surgery procedures?

Wounded Soldiers to Speak about Reconstructive Surgery
Most of the plastic surgery that we hear about is cosmetic surgery done for the purpose of improving the appearance. However, a large percentage of the plastic surgery that is done throughout the world is reconstructive surgery designed to repair the appearance of someone who has been injured. A large number of the people who are getting this type of plastic surgery are soldiers who have been wounded in war.
Although some soldiers have spoken to the press about the reconstructive surgery that they have had done, this is not usually a primary topic of the conversation. It may be mentioned in passing as a general discussion about their experiences. However, two soliders wounded in Iraq are going to be available to speak with the media this week about experiences with reconstructive surgery.
In addition to the insights available from the soldiers themselves, it will be possible to gain insight into this type of plastic surgery from the surgeons who have worked with them as they will also be present for the media inquiries. Learn more about the reason that they are speaking out
here.
Question of the Day: What percentage of plastic surgery is reconstructive surgery for wounded soldiers?

Plastic Surgery on YouTube Causes Controversy
People have just recently started realizing that there are a whole lot of plastic surgery videos available for viewing on YouTube. Some of those people started wondering just why it is that people will film their private plastic surgery for posting on a shared video site. The answer for some people may be that the doctor offered a discount on the plastic surgery if it was allowed to be filmed. This fact is causing a lot of controversy about the practice among people who have strong beliefs about the ethics related to this.
Doctors are interested in having YouTube videos posted of their work because it is a popular modern method of advertising. Some patients appreciate this because it gives them a good overview of what the plastic surgery procedure will be like and it gives them a chance to review their doctor in action before going under the knife. These things lead to a large number of supporters for the practice of filming YouTube videos.
However, some people say that its unethical for doctors to offer a lower cost on the plastic surgery procedure if the patient agrees to be filmed for YouTube. The idea is that the patient may choose to violate his own privacy in a way that he would normally not because of the lure of money.

Question of the Day: Should doctors offer reduced fees on plastic surgery for people who will allow their procedures to be filmed for YouTube marketing?

55 Million or More Plastic Surgeries Expected in 2015
A new research report released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) predicts that there will be over fifty five million plastic surgery procedures performed in 2015. This reflects a growing interest in plastic surgery which quadruples the number of procedures completed in just ten years. The researchers note awareness that the current state of the economy could decrease interest in plastic surgery procedures but say that they still expect this type of phenomenal rise in procedures during this time period.
There are many reasons that plastic surgery procedures are expected to increase so much. Some of these reasons include:
- More and more baby boomers are showing signs of aging and seeking procedures that get rid of that problem.
- Increased and improved marketing to consumers about the different procedures that are available as well as increased customer awareness of the process behind these procedures.
- Increased affordability of some of the procedures that are available.
- Widespread interest in non-invasive procedures that take the place of traditional plastic surgery for many patients.
- Large increase in the number of men who are willing and interested in getting cosmetic surgery.
The growth that is expected in the plastic surgery business is going to be largely driven by people seeking affordable non-invasive procedures but all types of plastic surgery are expected to see an increase in patients during this time.
Question of the Day: Will there really be over fifty five million plastic surgery procedures completed in 2015?

Stem Cells Could Change Plastic Surgery Completely
The most common platsic surgery procedures that are in use today could be radically different in the near future because of the medical advances that are being made in the use of stem cells. People may find that plastic surgery is more comfortable and successful when it is done through the use of a patient's own stem cells than when it is done through the use of synthetic fillers like is common today.
Take, for example, the breast augmentation. This is a highly common procedure which currently requires implants of saline or silicone. Although common, there are drawbacks to these implants because of the fact that they are not natural to the body. Advances in the use of stem cells for breast augmentation could allow for much more successful and natural breast enhancement.
The use of stem cells in plastic surgery is increasingly common for procedures that are done in Europe and Asia. They are not in use much today in the United States. However, it is believed that this could be the way of the future for plastic surgery. Learn more
here.
Question of the Day: Would plastic surgery using stem cells be more successful than the plastic surgery that is common today?

Celebrity Plastic Surgery Rumor: Hillary Duff
The
latest rumor in the always chatty world of celebrity plastic surgery gossip is that Hillary Duff may have opted to get a breast augmentation. The singer / actress was spotted recently at a pilates class where she was wearing a workout top that drew attention to her breasts.
The rumors about this plastic surgery are uncomfirmed. It's possible that she got a great augmentation or a breast life. It's also possible that she was wearing a push-up bra. And, as any woman knows, it's even possible that she was just wearing a really flattering workout top.
Duff has been the subject of celebrity plastic surgery rumors in the past. In general, she doesn't seem to be someone who is getting a lot of work done. But breast augmentations are common procedures and it's possible that she decided that she wanted to join in on the fun.
Question of the Day: Do you think the rumors about Hillary Duff's celebrity plastic surgery are true?

There's always been a good reason to get weight loss surgery. You'll look better and that will make you feel better. However, there may be an even better reason that just appearance to consider getting bariatric surgery if you're severely overweight. A
new study has found that there could be a decrease in cancer risk following the success of this type of surgery.
It's not just some insignificant potential decrease that we're talking about here, either. The study showed that there could be as much as an eighty percent decrease in cancer risk after the surgery. There also appear to be other direct health benefits including a decrease in diabetes and lower blood pressure rates.
The study was based primarily on those people who have had gastric bypass surgery but it is believed that other weight loss surgeries for the obese could be equally as effective in treating the problem. Sex and the City Stars Decide to Get Cosmetic Surgery
At the end of May, we
took a look at the cast of
Sex and the City and the different celebrity plastic surgery that had been done by the cast members. At that time, there wasn't a whole lot to report since the majority of the cast hadn't had a whole lot of plastic surgery done. However,
rumors are circulating that seeing themselves on the big screen changed things for some of the actresses of the cast because they went out shortly after the movie's release and got some plastic surgery done.
The big report is that Cynthia Nixon (Miranda on the show and movie) decided that she needed to get a breast augmentation. She's got a full frontal scene towards the end of the movie; perhaps seeing herself up close like that revealed to her that she wanted bigger breasts. Or maybe it's something that she'd been thinking about for awhile and decided to do only after the movie was complete. Or maybe she didn't get it done at all; additional report indicate that she has denied the rumors completely.
Question of the Day: What caused the stars of Sex and the City to decide to get plastic surgery after the movie's release?

Male Plastic Surgery Isn't New News
The news has suddenly hit the headlines: guys like plastic surgery, too. Scan the recent headlines and you'll see moer than a dozen different online newspapers and magazines promoting articles this week about the rise in plastic surgery among men. While it's true that there are new statistics out there that indicate that this is a rapidly growing part of the plastic surgery industry, it actually isn't new news that men are increasingly interested in getting cosmetic procedures done.
This trend has been on the rise for the past several years. Men have been more willing to admit their flaws and to work to get them changed through plastic surgery procedures. There's a higher level of acceptance for plastic surgery among men today which is only serving to increase the number of men getting it done. Add in the fact that a large percentage of men are baby boomers that want to fight the signs of aging and you'll see that it's really not so shocking to think that guys are getting cosmetic work by the bunches.
Yes, plastic surgery is increasing for men. But that's been going on for quite some time. New stats from the plastic surgery experts don't erase what has already been going on; they merely highlight what we've been seeing take place for awhile.
Question of the Day: Why are we suddenly so interested in the fact that men are getting a lot of plastic surgery?

Dallas Promotes Itself as a Plastic Surgery Destination
When we think about plastic surgery tourism, we typically think about Americans going to other countries to get inexpensive plastic surgery procedures done. It's true that this is most often the case for people who travel to get plastic surgery. However, it's increasingly common for american cities to market themselves as plastic surgery destinations that are cheaper than their neighbors. For example, Dallas has
been marketing itself lately as a much more affordable plastic surgery destination than nearby Houston.
In order to attract a specific set of clients in this area,
Dallas plastic surgeons have been focusing on niche clients such as the growing male population of plastic surgery clients. They target young men who are interested in body sculpting procedures as well as older men who are interested in anti-aging surgery. Although women are the bulk of their clients, this targeted marketing helps boost attention to the area and solidify Dallas a plastic surgery capital for Texas.
Question of the Day: Should people go out of their way to go to a less expensive city than their own for plastic surgery?

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Heidi Montag
Heidi Montag is just one of the cast members from
The Hills who has used plastic surgery to boost her appearance. Past rumors about her platsic surgery choices include a nose job and a breast augmentation. When she first got her breasts enlarged, some people said that they looked too unnatural post-surgery. However,
new reports from the critics indicate that she's settled into her breasts and that the post-surgery results are probably exactly what she was seeking to achieve.
This serves as a reminder to plastic surgery patients that you're going to need time to get used to the new look that you have after getting plastic surgery. For one thing, it takes time for the body to completely heal from plastic surgery and for the look that you were going for to really settle in to your body. Additionally, you need time to adjust to this new you and to start seeing yourself in this new body. Have patience rather than expecting immediate results.
Question of the Day: Do you think Heidi Montag's plastic surgery was successful in improving her appearance?

Is Plastic Surgery a Good Gift for Dad?
Many folks are trying to figure out what to get Dad for the upcoming Father's Day gift that's required of them. Some people have definitely considered the possibility of getting plastic surgery for their fathers. Is this a good idea?
Plastic surgery for men is on the rise so there's a good chance that your dad might be interested in getting something done. Procedures like liposuction and face lifts are common among both men and women and aren't considered inappropriate even for men of a generation that's less likely to consider plastic surgery than young men today might be.
However, it's always iffy about whether or not plastic surgery makes a good gift. This is a really personal procedure and it has to be wholeheartedly desired by the individual getting it to be a positive experience.
Your best bet with this type of gift is to think seriously about whether or not Dad would truly want this as a present. If you think he would, make sure that what you give him is a gift certificate to speak with a plastic surgeon rather than trying to get him a specific treatment. And finally, make sure he knows that you think he's great the way he is and that you won't be offended if he doesn't use the gift.
Question of the Day: Should you get Dad a gift of plastic surgery for Father's Day?

BioGlue Approved in EU for Reconstructive Surgery
A new product has received approval for use in reconstructive surgery in the EU. The product is called BioGlue, a name which reflects that this is a kind of medical adhesive. The purpose of it is to create a seal that doesn't rely on the body's ability to clot which means that it can be helpful in many different types of reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery procedures.
The procedure that doctors are most interested in using BioGlue for is the cosmetic
browlift. However, more studies need to be completed before the product is widely marketed to EU doctors for this purpose. Those studies are taking place in the U.S. as part of the final phase of the development of the product.
People who are interested in learning more about what this product means for plastic surgery can take a look at the complete article about its approval which is available
here.
Question of the Day: Will BioGlue become a product that we know by name or just one that is used in the background of plastic surgery procedures?

Nose Jobs That Don't Change How The Nose Looks
The "nose job" is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures available. Changing the shape of the nose can significantly change the appearance of the face. It's something that celebrities do to enhance their appearance and it's something that's relatively common among the average population. But not everyone that gets nose surgery is seeking to change how they look.
There are some people who get the nose job done because they are having medical problems which require them to open up the nasal passage in order to reduce the problems. Typically the issue is nasal obstruction which is often caused by the collapse of the internal nasal valve. People with this problem get rhinoplasty to remedy the issue.
Of course, this type of nose job will change the appearance of the face, something that people with this problem don't necessarily want to do. As a result, a new procedure has been developed which is less invasive and allows the surgeon to fix the nasal problem without actually reconstructing the nose.
The procedure is called Z-plasty and it's something that has typically been used in cosmetic surgery for the purpose of getting rid of scars. It is minimally invasive and can be done on an outpatient basis. The recovery time for this procedure is significantly less than that of the traditional nose job and it's as effective as the nose job in treating the nasal problem.

Question of the Day: If you had nasal problems that required surgery, would you consider it a good time to get a nose job and change your appearance?

Weight Loss Surgery Could Be On The Rise In Bollywood
A
recent article about the trends in Bollywood - and the trends among fans of the genre in India - indicates that there could be a rise in weight loss procedures requested by people living in that country today. The article says that the ideal body size in India is now a size 0, something that is believed to have become the case since Bollywood celebrities take many of their cues from the trends in Hollywood. This is causing women across India to seek out methods of losing weight to reduce their size down to this ideal "skinny jean" body.
The weight loss surgeries that would be favored by these people wouldn't likely be the bariatric surgery that is used to significantly reduce weight. Those surgeries are intended for truly overweight people. The people seeking out surgery because of this trend are likely to be of average weight. The procedures that would work best for them are things like liposuction and tummy tucks. Since fans tend to pick up on trends that are launched be celebrities, it is believed that these plastic surgery procedures could rise in Inida in the near future.
Question of the Day: Should the stars of Bollywood aspire to the same appearance as the stars in Hollywood?

Doctors Reveal Celebrity Plastic Surgery for a Price
Have you ever wondered how it is that the tabloids get a hold of private medical information about celebrities, such as the plastic surgery procedures that they get done? The answer is that they pay for it - and that it's credible doctors who are giving up that information for the right fee.
At least, that was the case in the early 1990's with hospital employees working at UCLA's Medical Center. Celebrities that opted to go there for their plastic surgery procedures found themselves at risk of having their privacy violated in this way.
These days, plastic surgery isn't really as secretive as it was back then. Celebrity plastic surgery is more out in the open. It's become more accepted. It's also more openly speculated about since the proliferation of celebrity blogs has made immediate tabloid gossip so prevalent.
Nevertheless celebrities still retain some right to their privacy regarding things that are personal such as plastic surgery. Learn more about the violations at UCLA from

Plastic Surgery as a Level Five Shopping Experience
Do you ever think about the type of shopping that you do and how different purchases vary from one another? Do you think about plastic surgery as a type of shopping or as something different somehow? A
recent article takes a look at how shopping can be divided into five different levels and shows why plastic surgery is at the height of the Level 5 list.
The five different levels relate to different degrees of purchases. A level one purchase would be something you do all the time, like get groceries. You have to do it, you may not particularly enjoy doing it and it probably doesn't make any difference to you whether you do it alone or with someone else. A level three purchase is something that you may be infrequently but not uncommonly, such as expensive electronics or new furniture. It's something that you take time to think about and something that you might get help from a spouse on but wouldn't go casually shopping for with a friend.
And then there's the level five purchases. These are purchases that are really rare, things that we just don't buy for ourselves that often. These are things like new homes and yes, plastic surgery. These are things that we don't take anyone along to buy with us (usually) because the experience of doing this kind of shopping is intensely personal and requires the greatest of our attention and focus. For the shopping guru, Level Five purchases like plastic surgery are something to look forward to.
Question of the Day: Do you think of buying plastic surgery as actually doing shopping?

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Brigitte Nielsen
Brigitte Nielsen is a model and actress who used to be married to Sylvester Stallone. She has stunning good looks and achieved them in part due to plastic surgery so she's not stranger to the art of going under the knife. As such, it wouldn't really be
big news that she's about to get more plastic surgery if it weren't the fact that she's going to have the whole thing filmed and aired on TV. Don't get too excited, though; you'll have to be watching TV in Germany to see it.
The show will air in three parts on a German television channel. If you're wondering why it's going to take three parts to cover the procedures, it's due to the fact that she's going to be getting a lot done. Cosmetic enhancements listed as being filmed for the show include:
- Liposuction.
- Fat injections.
- Facelift.
- Eye lift.
- Breast lift.
- Cosmetic dentistry.
Nielsen says that she's doing this on television more as a service than for the attention. She wants the world to see that stars do get plastic surgery even though they don't like to talk about it. And she wants to show that it's okay to bring it out into the open. Too bad it's only going to happen in Germany.
Question of the Day: Would you be interested in watching Nielsen's plastic surgery if it was aired on U.S. tv?

Look Friendlier with Facial Plastic Surgery
Do people frequently ask you if you're tired? Worse yet, do they often ask you why you look so mad or upset? You may be baffled by always getting this question since you're neither tired nor upset when someone asks. The answer may be that the unique structure of your face is causing people to misinterpret what you're feeling when you speak to them. Plastic surgery for the face can assist you in reducing this problem so that the way people see you is the way that you really are.
This may sound like it's not that big of a deal but it can actually have a significant impact on the way that the world relates to you. Career Coaches Recommend Plastic Surgery
Imagine that you are unhappy with your status at work and want to improve the situation. Let's say that you hired a
career coach to tell you everything that you need to do in order to move up the corporate ladder or move on to a better job altogether. What would the coach tell you? The list might be long but it's almost certain that something like
plastic surgery would be on there.
Studies show that people who look better are going to do better in the professional world. This is particularly true for women but both genders may find that their paychecks increase by about twenty percent just by getting their looks up to a higher level.
Weight loss procedures, nose jobs and anything that clears up your skin and makes you look younger can seriously increase your chances of becoming more successful in the work place.
Of course, a lousy employee isn't going to get hired and stay in a great job just because he or she is good looking. You still have to do your work and do it well. But the average employee is going to significantly improve his or her chances of moving up in the career circle just by enhancing the appearance a little bit.
Question of the Day: Should we use plastic surgery to move up the ladder of success?
