Teen Plastic Surgery On The Rise

Plastic surgery procedures have been on the rise among the general public due to increased availability, lowered costs, more awareness of the types of procedures available and a generally higher acceptance level for getting cosmetic work done. The growth of interest in plastic surgery is not just among older people seeking to return their appearance to how it looked in their younger days; there are also a significantly larger number of teens getting plastic surgery than in the past.

"Among teens 18 and younger, the number of plastic surgery procedures has increased from 59,890 in 1997 to more than 205,119 in 2007, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery." (source)

The most popular plastic surgery procedure among teens was otoplasty which is a reshaping of the year. Breast augmentations were also not uncommon among teens. There are a variety of different procedures done on people below the age of eighteen (with parental consent). The bulk of these are done for the purpose of fitting in with peers.

Question of the Day: Is it good or bad that plastic surgery has increased among teens?
