Teens Get Plastic Surgery for Low Self-Esteem From Bullying
Kids are mean. Kids have always been mean to one another. But kids today are not just taking the abuse from their peers without trying to do something about it. Instead, they may be turning to plastic surgery to try to improve their appearance after being emotionally battered by others in their schools. That's the news coming out of UK newspapers right now after it has been discovered that platsic surgeons there have been giving nose jobs and breast implants to young teens who have come to them to help resolve some of the problems of low self-esteem that have been caused by verbal attacks from abusive peers. The problem with this is that teens may not have the ability to make a good judgment about whether or not to get plastic surgery. It is never a good idea to get plastic surgery because of someone else. Instead, it should be something that you have thought through and chosen to do on your own. And, of course, teens may find that they don't get any better treatment from their cruel peers after they get the plastic surgery than they did prior to getting the work done. Combined with the risk to getting plastic surgery while the body is still developing, this results in a situation that definitely needs some review. If these teens still feel like they want plastic surgery a few years after high school is left behind and bullying is behind them, then they can move forward with the procedures. Until then plastic surgeons will need to work with parents to find safe solutions regarding teen plastic surgery. Celebrity Nose Jobs
Earlier this month the Los Angeles Times ran an entertainment piece showing off the noses of a bunch of different celebrities. The suggestion in this piece was that some of these people have gotten rhinoplasty over the years. The L.A. Times didn't go so far as to say which celebrities they believe may have gotten nose jobs done. Instead, they left it up to their readers to determine which famous noses got that way because of the work done by a skilled plastic surgeon. Readers could complete a survey of about twenty different famous people, giving their two cents about whether or not a nose job was done. The choices that you had to respond with were: - "This nose looks refined" - "Not a good result. I liked the old one better." - "It's the same nose. (Just lighting or makeup.) - "Who cares?" Celebrities who were examined by readers in this survey included Alicia Keys, Angelina Jolie and Tyra Banks. Take the survey yourself here. Get Buff With Bicep Implants
Many men (and some women, of course) want to get a more muscular appearance to their body. What a large percentage of these people don't want to have to do is to spend a lot of time at the gym trying to get those muscles. One solution? Plastic surgery. Awful Plastic Surgery points out that a skilled doctor could put silicon implants into the biceps to give them the appearance of being more muscular than they naturally are. The patient looks like a bodybuilder without having to actually go lift weights at the gym. Those people who don't want to go so far as to get bicep implants could consider simply getting an arm reduction. This is a plastic surgery procedure that eliminates the fat and loose skin from the arms. This doesn't necessarily define the muscle but it helps get that stuff out of the way so that it's easier to sculpt the arm through moderate exercise. Question of the Day: What other plastic surgery procedures could be used to make you look more muscular than you already are? photo link

Eyelid Surgery Need to Change
Eyelid surgery is one of the top five plastic surgery procedures performed in the United States each year. This is due to the fact that aging around the eyes is one of the quickest ways for a person to begin to look old. Repairing that aging is one of the easiest plastic surgery procedures for those people who seek an anti-aging plastic surgery treatment. However, research indicates that the methods of plastic surgery for the eyes that are being used by most plastic surgeons are not sufficient to meeting the goals of the patient. The problem is that we have only recently come to realize that fat under the eyes grows with age and that this is a significant factor in making eyes look older. Most doctors do not remove fat from the eye when doing eyelid surgery. The laws of gravity are such that this means that eyelid surgery today may not be as long-lasting as it could be if plastic surgeons removed fat from the eye when doing this surgery. This topic has been covered extensively in a medical report being released next month. Get an overview of it here. Question of the Day: Why don't doctors typically remove eyelid fat when performing eyelid surgery? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Michael Jackson Turns 50
One of the most common names that you hear when it comes to celebrity plastic surgery is Michael Jackson. Everyone knows that Michael Jackson has had some sort of plastic surgery or another over the years although most people would be hard-pressed to tell you specifically what he has had done. The first rhinoplasty that he had is a confirmed fact (it was done after an injury to the nose) but the rumors about cheekbone surgery, lip surgery and multiple other rhinoplasty procedures are all vague and clouded in partial facts. Nevertheless, it's true that Michael Jackson has had some plastic surgery over the years. Although many may say that it wasn't done well because he doesn't look great, they ought to think about the fact that the man is about to turn 50. Does he really look 50? He may look aged to some but the plastic surgery procedures have been successful enough to keep anyone who looks closely from guessing his real age. Question of the Day: Have the plastic surgery procedures that he's gotten made Michael Jackson look younger than his fifty years? photo link

Plastic Surgeons Should Be Part of Breast Reconstruction Team
Women are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of serving as an advocate for themselves when it comes to breast cancer. One of the issues that concerns many women is that they want to get breast reconstruction surgery after the cancer is gone but some women don't know how to approach this topic. What women should know is that it is something that they should indeed broach with their cancer doctors. More importantly, they should be asking that the cancer doctor work as part of a team of doctors which includes a plastic surgeon who is knowledgeable about breast reconstruction surgery. There are many cancer doctors who simply choose not to address the issue of breast reconstruction surgery with their patients because they aren't familiar with this type of cosmetic procedure. However, ignoring the issue doesn't make the fact that women are concerned about it go away. Women seeking to advocate for themselves should demand that a team of doctors specializing in different aspects of pre- and post- cancer treatment be involved in working together as a team to complete all of the medical needs they require including the cosmetic desire for breast reconstruction after cancer surgery. Learn more about the plastic surgeon as part of a cancer treatment team from this illuminating report. Celebrity Plastic Sugery: Eva Mendes
Eva Mendes is an actress in her thirties who has a near-perfect body. This fact is highlighted by the fact that she was named as the number four "most desirable woman" in a "top 99" list published by AskMen.com this year. However, no body stays perfect forever so some people have wondered what Mendes plans to do when her body inevitably begins to go south as a result of age. After all, mid-thirties isn't really young in Hollywood. Mendes doesn't have any immediate plans to get celebrity plastic surgery but she also isn't afraid of the idea that she may need to get some work done on her body in the future. She has recently stated that she would be perfectly comfortable getting plastic surgery if and when she needs it. She hasn't stated specifically what she might like to have done but she has been known to pose topless before so it's not unreasonable to think that a breast lift could be in order once the girls start to sag. Question of the Day: What type of plastic surgery do you think Eva Mendes would be likely to get? photo link

The Right Hospitals For Plastic Surgery Tourism
We have reported in the past that there is a huge trend towards medical tourism including plastic surgery tourism. In this trend, people are leaving countries like the U.S. and Australia and traveling to countries like India and China to get their medical procedures done at a much lower cost than what can be found in their home countries. There are many good reasons not to go this route and to instead get plastic surgery from a doctor in your hometown. However, people are continuing to go ahead and get plastic surgery and other medical procedures done in foreign countries so there is a need to make sure that people know where is good to go and where should be avoided when doing this type of medical tourism. A new guide published by the Medical Tourism Company helps patients to gain an understanding of how to choose an appropriate location and hospital for medical tourism. In regards to plastic surgery tourism, the two leading destinations appear to be Costa Rica and Thailand. Patients considering this route for getting affordable plastic surgery should think carefully about the right way to do this and should weigh it against the benefits of getting plastic surgery done at home. Debating Use of Stem Cells in Breast Surgery
The use of stem cells for all different types of medical purposes continues to be a source of a lot of debate because people on both sides of the issue feel strongly about whether or not it's a good thing. It's of little surprise then that a fairly new procedure implementing stem cells into breast augmentation and reconstruction is a controversial plastic surgery procedure that has people arguing the pros and cons rather heatedly. Currently there are breast surgeries being done that rely on a combination of the individual's own fat and stem cells to either enlarge the breasts or to repair them after cancer treatment. These surgeries are being done in Japan as well as in Europe. Many say that they will be done in the United States soon but there is definitely a large group of people opposed to this because they say that more testing must be done in order to make sure that this is a safe procedure. The U.S. doesn't even seem to know how to deal with the procedure. That's because medical practitioners consider it a procedure which means it wouldn't be regulated by the FDA but some say that the FDA should regulate it. Currently, they're saying that augmenting fat with stem cells makes a "biologic product" which can be regulated by the FDA. Those who are hoping for FDA approval say that this could be the most natural-looking breast augmentation procedure ever created. Learn more about both sides of the issue from the Wall Street Journal. Question of the Day: What are the pros and cons of using stem-cell-enhanced fat to enlarge breasts? photo link

Cosmetic Procedures You May Forget About
There are some procedures that we always think about when we think about going to see a plastic surgeon. For example, we always think about procedures like getting breast implants or considering weight loss surgery. When asked what types of things plastic surgeons do, these are the things that might come up. We also might remember to throw in a few non-invasive procedures like Botox injections. But there are actually a lot of cosmetic procedures that plastic surgeons perform which we often fail to think about. Here are a few examples:
- Laser Tattoo Removal. There are med spas and even tattoo shops that perform this but it's best to go to a cosmetic doctor with medical training to get good work done for Laser Tattoo Removal.
- Laser Hair Removal. Same rules apply for laser hair removal as there are for laesr tattoo removal; do it at a doctor's office for the safest and best results.
- Sunless Tanning. Did you know that this is something that you can do with the help of a cosmetic doctor instead of getting it done at a tanning salon?
- Treatment for varicose veins. This is a health problem but it's also a cosmetic problem and there's a good chance that your cosmetic doctor can help you.
- Surgeries for improving sex. There are a lot of procedures that can be done to cosmetically enhance the genital area in order to improve sexual relationships. G-spot amplification is one example.
Cosmetic doctors do a lot more than breast augmentation and weight loss surgery. Consider all of your choices! Question of the Day: What other procedures do cosmetic surgeons do? photo link

Invasive vs. Non-Invasive Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery is on the rise but it is more likely that someone is going to opt to get non-invasive plastic surgery than invasive plastic surgery. Non-invasive plastic surgery refers to procedures that are done in a med spa type of setting - things like laser tattoo removal and Botox injections and LipoDissolve treatments. Invasive plastic surgery is the stuff that requires anesthesia and surgical tools, things like lipo and breast lifts. Here are some of the reasons that people opt to get non-invasive plastic surgery: - It's easier on the body. - It tends to be more affordable although long term costs could be higher because repeat procedures are often necessary. - It takes less recovery time so they don't haev to miss work. - Plastic surgery is being done by younger patients who don't yet require invasive procedures. - Improvements in non-invasive plastic surgery have made this an option that truly alters the appearance in a favorable way. People will sometimes still prefer invasive plastic surgery. Reasons for this include: - Overall better results that last for a longer period of time. - More drastic results that can't be achieved with non-invasive plastic surgery. - Potential for long-term cost savings. - One time procedures may be less demanding on your time over the long term period. It is important to discuss all of your plastic surgery options with the doctor that you are interested in working with to determine whether you are more interested in non-invasive or invasive plastic surgery procedures in order to get the results that you desire. Tips For Deciding Between a Male or Female Plastic Surgeon
The majority of people who get plastic surgery don't have any preference regarding whether their doctor is male or female. However, plastic surgery is a highly personal procedure and some people might find that they would be more comfortable with a doctor of one gender as opposed to the other. Here are some tips to follow regarding the decision about the gender of your plastic surgeno: - Ask yourself if your doctor's gender matters to you at all. For many people, the gender of the doctor isn't an issue and the decision about a doctor can be based on other factors. - Consider the benefits of having a female plastic surgeon. Make a list of what these are. Do the same thing for a male surgeon. Compare the two lists and see if one stands out. - Consider whether the type of surgery you are having plays a part. Maybe you don't mind getting a facelift from a doctor of either gender but would have a serious preference in gender for a plastic surgoen performing G-spot amplification. - Ask others what their experiences have been. Most people don't talk about the gender of their doctor when discussing plastic surgery but if you ask them about their opinino then they might open up about the issue. These are just a few of the things to think about when deciding whether to choose a female plastic surgeon or a male plastic surgeon. Question of the Day: What would be your reason for choosing a male plastic surgeon over a female plastic surgeon or vice versa? photo link

Talking Openly About Plastic Surgery
We hear about plastic surgery almost all of the time. If you pay any attention at all to celebrity news then you know that celebrity plastic surgery is a really hot topic. We can even watch people getting plastic surgery on TV shows and YouTube videos. But that doesn't mean that we really know how to take seriously and honestly and openly about the topic of plastic surgery. The thing is that most of our plastic surgery conversations are conversations about gossip and conversations about shocking things. We hear about plastic surgery gone wrong and we want to tell others about it. We find out that someone we know got plastic surgery and we hadn't realized it so we want to tell others and see if they knew. But what about just normal conversations about plastic surgery? All of these "shocking" conversations make it more difficult for us each to openly admit when we ourselves are seeking plastic surgery information because we fear that we are just going to become fodder for these types of gossipy conversations. It is important to begun opening up the discussion of plastic surgery so that more voices can be heard. The conversation about plastic surgery should be one that we are all okay with discussing comfortably. After all, a whole lot of normal people are out there getting basic plastic surgery procedures. We should be able to talk about that. Question of the Day: Why is it that we don't talk honestly about plastic surgery even though we talk about plastic surgery a lot of the time? photo link

Plastic Surgery Procedures for the Breasts
If a woman in your life were to tell you that she was interested in getting plastic surgery, what is the procedure that you are most likely to assume that she is going to get? Most people will assume that a woman is considering a "boob job". Although we get plastic surgery on all different parts of the body, the plastic surgery that most people want to dicuss is plastic surgery for the breasts. Here's a look at the different plastic surgery procedures available involving the breasts: - Breast Augmentation. The most common type of breast plastic surgery is the "boob job" or breast augmentation in which the size of the breasts is increased. - Breast Reduction. Although most women want larger breasts, some women want theirs to be smaller so they get a breast reduction surgery instead. - Breast Lift. Some women are happy with the size of their breasts but want them to be perkier. The Breast Lift is the solution. This one is commonly considered part of the "Mommy Makeover" plastic surgery that has gotten popular in recent years. - Benelli Lift. This is a less-invasive partial breast lift for women with smaller breasts. - Breast Reconstruction. Women who lose their breasts to cancer will get reconstructive plastic surgery. - Male Breast Reduction. Some men have boobs and they don't want them so they get a plastic surgeon to help them get rid of them. These are the most common breast surgery procedures available to people interested in changing the size or shape of their chests. Question of the Day: What breast surgery do you think is most common other than a breast augmentation? photo link

Awful Plastic Surgery Tales
When you are reading stories about plastic surgery, do you ever find yourself drawn to the stories about plastic surgery gone wrong? Most people would prefer to read a story about awful plastic surgery than to read information about the basic procedures that are done which almost always go smoothly. Why is that? Awful plastic surgery interests people for a few reasons including:
- It's interesting in a creepy kind of way. It's the same kind of thing as why we look at car wrecks when we pass them. They are horrifyingly interesting.
- It allows us to admit our fears. Most people are at least a little bit afraid of going to the doctor and being able to say, "look at this thing that happened when someone got plastic surgery" allows us to openly discuss those fears without having to just come right out and say "I'm afraid".
- These stories are often about celebrities and we like any story that reminds us that celebrities are humans, too.
Of course, there are other reasons that we would rather read about awful plastic surgery than normal plastic surgery not the least of which is the fact that normal stories are a little dry because they just tell you how to get procedures done and don't have a lot of personal detail to them. Question of the Day: Why do we like awful plastic surgery stories? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery Stories Aren't Always True
One of the most fun types of stories to read about the topic of plastic surgery is the stories that are relaying information about celebrity plastic surgery. We like celebrity plastic surgery stories because they inform us about plastic surgery procedures and issues while also entertaining us. Plus they remind us that the gods and goddesses of the silver screen are actually just normal human beings with human flaws that they would like to get fixed if they can. However, it is important to be aware of the fact that celebrity plastic surgery stories aren't always true. A majority of the stories that are circulated about celebrity plastic surgery are speculations rather than facts about plastic surgery. You can spot these stories because they will say, "it looks like so-and-so might be getting ..." rather than coming right out and saying "so-and-so got x,y,z done". Reading between the lines of stories is always important when you are reading celebrity news stories because so much of what the media prints about celebrities is just rumors and gossip and speculation. If you are truly interested in celebrity plastic surgery, you need to stick to reading the stories and watching the interviews that are coming straight from the person who got the procedure done. All of these resources provide interesting and information information about plastic surgery. But they shouldn't replace the value of reading books about plastic surgery. Books can give you a more complete perspective on the topic of plastic surgery than almost any of these other plastic surgery resources can provide. Here are just a few of the types of books that you may read about plastic surgery:
- Books by plastic surgeons. These books usually describe what it is like to be a plastic surgery doctor and give great insight into the real world of plastic surgery.
- Books by plastic surgery patients. Memoirs from people who have gotten plastic surgery can be terrific for getting a look at the inside perspective of what it's like to be a plastic surgery patient.
- Medical books. These books provide the technical information you may be seeking about options for plastic surgery, the procedures involved and the risks that are associated with those procedures.
- Fun books. There are some books out there that are lighthearted and provide just a general opinion or information about plastic surgery. Books about celebrity plastic surgery also fall into this category.
These types of books offer information to you that you can't get from the medium of a blog or a news report. Of course, you don't want to rely on books alone to get plastic surgery information. You want to talk to a doctor as well. But read books to broaden your perspective on this topic. Question of the Day: What books do you recommend on the topic of plastic surgery? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery Kerry Katona
Kerry Katona is an English superstar who is best known as a pop singer with the band Atomic Kitten but who has also done work in television and the business of writing and reporting. Katona has been a subject of many British tabloids in recent years primarily with negative press about how she chooses to raise her four young children. Right now she's making headlines of a different sort though after issuing new announcements that she plans to spend quite a chunk of change on celebrity plastic surgery. Katona has stated that she plans to spend approximately £15,000 (over $28,000) on plastic surgery to improve her appearance and restore some of the youthfulness to her shape. Among the procedures that she is reportedly planning to get will be liposuction and a breast reduction. The woman has breasts that are size 34GG and reports that she wants to go down to a DD instead. She says that the surgery is supposed to give her back her pre-baby body. Reconstructive Surgeon Receives Rotary Award
Most people think of plastic surgery as something aesthetic, something cosmetic, something perhaps a little bit frivolous that is done just to improve the appearance. While plastic surgery certainly serves the purpose of improving a patient's looks, it can also be something that is life-changing. When reconstructive surgery allows for young people to look "more normal" and to feel more confident then it goes far beyond the self-serving stereotypes that people have about plastic surgery. One plastic surgeon who really seems to have understood this is Dr. Mel Spira. He has spent the past twenty years of his career traveling around the globe and giving reconstructive surgery to children who need it. His area of specialty is repairing cleft lips and palates on young children and babies so that they can grow up to be developmentally "normal" as well as normal in appearance. He is being awarded with a Supreme Achievement Award from a rotary club who thinks that this type of plastic surgery is a benefit to the whole world. Latest Plastic Surgery Craze: Facial Hair Transplants
We are always hearing about people going to the cosmetic surgeon to get simple treatments that remove hair from the body (such as laser hair removal for the hair above the upper lip). But did you know that the latest fad in plastic surgery is actually to get more hair put on to your face? Eyebrow hair transplants, beard transplants and moustache transplants are all highly popular with cosmetic surgery patients today. The trend is just starting to really take off in Hollywood which means that it will likely trickle down to the average plastic surgery patient in the relatively near future. These transplants cost anywhere from $5,000 to $25,000 per procedure depending upon the quality of the skin where the transplant is occurring and the placement of the new hair (angled hair transplants like beard transplants are more difficult and therefore pricier). The hair used in these transplants is removed from somewhere else on the patient's body and placed in the new area. Question of the Day: Will facial hair transplants become the next big thing in plastic surgery? photo link

Six Questions To Ask Before Doing a Plastic Surgery Clinical Trial
Have you ever thought about getting involved in a clinical trial for a new plastic surgery procedure? These trials are designed to give researchers additional information about the use of new plastic surgery tools that haven't been tried and tested in the market. Some people find the idea of doing this to be scary but other people report that they like the fact that they can get cutting-edge plastic surgery procedure done at little to no cost by participating in plastic surgery clinical trials. A recent report on the pros and cons of being involved in these plastic surgery procedures lists six questions that you should ask before you agree to being a part of the trial:
1. What types of things are going to happen to me as a participant in this research?
2. Will the research help me personally or will it solely benefit the researchers?
3. What other options do I have besides this trial to get the same type of procedure?
4. Can I leave the study at any time or are there restrictions on leaving the trial?
5. Will it cost me anything or are all my costs going to be covered?
6. What are the anticipated side effects and risks of participating in this study?
Basically you want to ask questions that are going to allow you to assess whether you are going to truly benefit from doing this kind of procedure or whether you should go ahead and foot the bill for local plastic surgery. Question of the Day: Is it a wise idea to get involved in plastic surgery clinical trials? photo link

Korean Plastic Surgery Leans Towards Westernized Looks
There is an article in the Chicago Tribune this week which discusses the definition of beauty from the perspective of a Korean woman who was raised as an adoptee by white parents. One of the topics discussed throughout this article is the popularity of plastic surgery in Korea right now. The author reports that one of the most popular forms of plastic surgery in Korea today is the surgery that is used to reshape the eyelids and give a new shape to the eyes. This eye surgery is popular with both men and women and is intended to open the eyes up so that they appear wider and so that the patient has a more "Western" appearance. The author also reports that other popular plastic surgery procedures in Korea (in both celebrity plastic surgery and standard plastic surgery) are designed to give a more Western look to the patient. These surgeries include a slimming of the jawline and a reshaping of the nose. Question of the Day: Is it a positive or negative thing that Korean celebrities and residents are getting plastic surgery to look more Westernized? photo link

New Lip Implant Device Approved by FDA
Ever since Angelina Jolie became a superstar, the popularity of lip agumentation surgery has grown considerably. People now realize that having full, luscious lips makes you look more sexy and can make you appear younger than your true age. A new device just approved by the FDA could improve lip augmentation surgery for some patients. The device is called the FulFil lip implant. It's essentially a small balloon that is stretched into the lips during lip augmentation and then filled with saline. This allows for the lips to not only look fuller but also to feel more supple. The FDA has approved the new lip implant on a conditional basis so that further testing can occur. Testing that has taken place so far has shown a great success rate with patients rating their happiness with that product at 6.3 out of 7. After additional testing it may be a relatively short period of time before the new lip implant makes it to the market. Question of the Day: Will the new FulFil lip implant be successful on the cosmetic surgery market? photo link

3 Plastic Surgery Procedures that are Great for Men
Male plastic surgery is on the rise and there is almost no procedure that men aren't interested in these days. However, the average guy isn't looking to get a rare type of plastic surgery that his buddies would raise eyebrows at. Instead, he's looking to get some basic plastic surgery that will improve the overall appearance of his body so that women will be more attracted to him but without compromising his masculinity in any way. There are three procedures that are specifically good for this type of male plastic surgery:
- Male breast reduction. Getting rid of man boobs definitely doesn't harm your image with the guys.
- Liposuction. It's increasingly common for men to want to lose their body fat and this is the best surgery for that.
- Pec implants. Buffing up the body with some implants in the pecs is a good way to go for obtaining that muscled look men are seeking.
In addition to these three types of male plastic surgery, men are increasingly using non-invasive cosmetic surgery like Botox as an anti-aging tool. Question of the Day: What is the best combination of plastic surgery procedures for the average guy? photo link

Eyelid Surgery for Under-Eye Bags
You probably think that the reason that you have dark circles and bags under your eyes is because you aren't getting enough sleep. That is probably a primary cause of this common problem. However undereye bags may simply be caused by the fact that you are getting older. Getting enough sleep isn't going to help resolve the problem; getting eyelid surgery will. A new report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons indicates that the lower eyelids naturally get fatter with age. What is interesting is that the rest of the face will actually lose fat with age. This means that the contrast between the lower eyelids and the rest of the face is highly pronounced, leading to exaggerated undereye bags that can't be remedied simply with sleep. Eyelid surgery can be used to re-shape the eyes and to create an anti-aging effect. A key part of the eyelid surgery is to remove the fat underneath the lower eyelids to reduce these bags underneath the eyes. This will make the patient look more awake and alert and therefore the patient will look younger. Question of the Day: What causes the lower eyelid to gain fat with age even though the rest of the face loses fat? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Paris Hilton Lookalike
There is a nineteent-year-old girl in Russia named Anna Ivanov who has regularly been told that she looks like Paris Hilton. Taking the news to heart, she has gone to a plastic surgeon with the request that she be made over specifically to look exactly like the socialite superstar. The doctor has agreed to go ahead and perform the procedures that Ivanov is seeking so that the girl can look more like Paris than she did before. Apparently Ivanov looked enough like Paris Hilton that she didn't have to do a whole lot of work before she could be made to look more like her. A breast enlargement, a waist reduction and a lip augmentation were the procedures that were done to increase the likeness between the two women. It will take about two months for Ivanov's body to heal and for her to see whether or not the surgery was truly successful in making her look exactly like Paris Hilton. As a rule, most surgeons would not consider doing a plastic surgery procedure like this. There is no guarantee that you will come out looking like the celebrity that you seek to mirror. Additionally, there is some concern that the desire to look exactly like someone else reflects an emotional instability which makes plastic surgery unwise. Question of the Day: Will Anna Ivanov end up looking exactly like Paris Hilton when her plastic surgery is complete? photo link

Plastic Surgery Puts Venezuela on Miss Universe Stage
Miss Venezuela was a coveted title that had a long stretch of eventually becoming Miss Universe in the pageants that elevate beauty to a whole new level. Then there was a long period during which the women of Venezuela just didn't make it to that global level. However, the country has returned with a win this year at the Miss Universe pageant in Vietnam. And yes, plastic surgery was to thank. The sixty-year-old male coach for Miss Venezuela has not said specifically what type of plastic surgery he has had his girls get over the years. He has, however, acknowledged that they were stunning beauties to begin with and that his encouragement for them to get plastic surgery served only to perfect what was already amazing. In addition to plastic surgery for the body, these women have gotten cosmetic dentistry, psychological therapy and other types of self-help. Learn more about this here. Question of the Day: What percentage of Misses from the Miss Universe pageant have gotten plastic surgery? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Dannii Minogue
While many people in the United States are familiar with Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue, few of them know much about her sister Dannii. Despite this, she is well-known in Australia as a multi-talent individual who has worked in singing, acting and fashion design. Because of the work that she has done throughout the years, the 38-year-old star has been captured often in photographs. In order to look her best in those photos, she has gotten plastic surgery. The most well-known plastic surgery that Dannii Minogue has gotten was a breast augmentation which she shows off by usually wearing cleavage-revealing tops. It is rumored that she has also gotten rhinoplasty although she hasn't admitted to the nose job. What Dannii has admitted to is the use of Botox to keep herself looking young and fresh. She says that she gets cosmetic procedures done in order to be able to put her best foot forward. When asked if the plastic surgery she has gotten has made her happier, she says that it has not. However, she also says that the purpose of the procedures wasn't to make her happier but rather to make her more comfortable with herself in the public eye which it has succeeded in doing. Hair Transplants Have Improved
More and more men are getting plastic surgery these days due to the fact that they are starting to realize how important plastic surgery can be towards improving their self esteem, getting ahead professionally and being perceived well by others. A major problem plaguing the male appearance continues to be baldness. As a result, there has been a renewed interest in cosmetic surgery procedures designed to allow for the regrowth of hair on the head. A new report about hair transplants indicates that there is both good news and bad news in this area of cosmetic treatment. Bad news first: there haven't been any new drug treatments for hair loss in over ten years and it doesn't appear that there will be any time soon so you're going to have to get the invasive surgery of a hair transplant in order to reduce baldness. More bad news: the hair transplant surgery is expensive. But now for the good news: the hair transplant is a procedure that has improved over time. It is possible to get the procedure now in a way that will not likely be noticeable to others. This means that you not only don't have to be bald but no one that you meet will know that you ever were bald in the past. In addition to the improvements that have been made to the hair transplant, forward motion has been made into research that could eventually allow for successful non-invasive procedures for regrowth of hair. Question of the Day: Is a hair transplant worth the money that it costs? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Katie Price (Jordan)
There is an English model and actress who is better known for her celebrity plastic surgery than she is for any acting that she has done. Her real name is Katie Price but she is better known as Jordan. She gained attention in the United States due in part to the massively large breasts (FF cups) that she opted to get using breast augmentation surgery. Shortly after the augmentation, she ended up getting a breast reduction. Her fluctuation in breast size continued as she tried to figure out what kind of look she was really going for. Not all that long ago, Jordan swore that the was done with the breast augmentation / reduction cycle and that she was going to give up plastic surgery forever. However, that probably isn't the case. Apparently Jordan was spotted in the United States where she is supposed to be getting yet another surgery on her breasts. Rumors had it that she was going to be getting a breast reduction. It would be her fifth breast surgery procedure and the one that she now claims is going to be her last. However, new rumors are saying that she is actually planning to surprise everyone by getting a breast augmentation (again) instead of a breast reduction. She is also reportedly getting some type of lip augmentation while she is here. Question of the Day: When will Katie Price stop getting breast surgeries and accept her breast size? photo link

Plastic Surgery Tourism Decreasing Surgeon Revenue
One of the trends that we have seen take place in recent years is a trend towards medical tourism. There are all sorts of different procedures that people go overseas to get taken care of. Many of these procedures are plastic surgery procedures. Patients are often warned against the use of plastic surgery tourism. The main reason that people get plastic surgery done in countries othern than their home country is in order to decrease the costs of the procedure. However it is reported that the risks outweigh the benefits of the cost savings for most plastic surgery patients. And it turns out that it's not just the patient that is at risk of damage when plastic surgery tourism increases. A new report reminds us that taking medical care out of the country is going to decrease the revenue for medical care providers in the U.S. This is a detriment because it puts good surgeons out of work and leads to significant changes in the availability of services in the United States. Question of the Day: What are the ramifications of plastic surgery tourism for the patient and for the doctors who perform plastic surgery in the United States? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Brad Pitt
There are some celebrities who get bad plastic surgery and it's obvious from the first photograph taken after the procedure. Most celebrities, however, get celebrity plastic surgery done by a great doctor who is good enough at what he does that many people don't even know that any surgery was involved. Awful Plastic Surgery suggests that one of those people is Brad Pitt. The plastic surgery gossip site isn't the only one to suggest that Pitt has gotten some plastic surgery done over the years. (The National Ledger suggested the same thing a couple of months back after it was suggested to them by Entertainment Weekly.) However Awful Plastic Surgery has made some basic guesses as to what Brad Pitt might have gotten done in terms of plastic surgery. The three main suggestions seem to be that Brad Pitt has had changes to the nose, cheeks and jawline. Cheek implants and jaw implants might be responsible for the latter two and it's possible that a rhinoplasty helped with the nose. Of course, these are all just rumors and speculation but if they're true then Pitt has a good doctor who has made it difficult to tell if the man's handsome face is natural or enhanced. Breast Reduction Improves Self-Esteem
There have been many debates over the years about whether or not you can improve the way that you feel about yourself by getting a "boob job". Some say that breast augmentation makes them feel more secure in their bodies and therefore increases their confidence and self-esteem. Others insist that breast augmentation is a temporary fix for self-esteem problems and that it won't last over time. The debate in that area of plastic surgery will continue on. But what's interesting is that a related surgery does seem to have marked effects on improving self-esteem. Women who opt to get breast reduction surgery seem to report that the benefits go way beyond the physical comfort of a smaller breast size and actually can help to improve the way that the patient feels emotionally. There is definitely a physical benefit to getting breast reduction surgery. The same study that looked at self-esteem also looked at functionality and revealed that breast reduction does increase the physical functioning abilities of the patient. However, there is definitely some value to the fact that the surgery also helps to improve the way that the patient feels about herself. Question of the Day: Why does breast reduction surgery lead to increased self esteem? photo link

The New Face In Plastic Surgery
One of the messages that we are constantly bombarded with as women is that we need to be thinner than we are now. This message is regularly reinforced by Hollywood stars. However, the trend towards being uber-thin seems to be changing. At the very least, there seems to be a shift away from the popularity of the very thin face and towards a more plump "baby face" type of look. We have seen this trend taking place for a little while now. Botox injections that were once used primarily to reduce wrinkles are now regularly used in conjunction with other dermal fillers to plump up the cheeks and the lips. We are also seeing an increased interest in cheek implants and other plastic surgery procedures that are designed to create a fuller look for the face. A series of celebrities are getting procedures done that are designed to reduce the thin appearance of the face and increase that "baby fat" look that is becoming so desirable. A list of them can be found on this blog that identifies the trend. Question of the Day: Will the trend towards the "baby fat" face make other body fat more acceptable? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Vanessa and Kobe Bryant
One subject at the center of celebrity plastic surgery rumors right now is Vanessa Bryant. She is the wife of basketball player Kobe Bryant who has been notorious because of sexual assault charges filed against him. He was already married at the time of those allegations but his wife has stuck with him and apparently the couple is going strong. One celebrity gossip site suggests that perhaps the improved relationship has to do with the fact that Vaness Bryant has improved her appearance. The rumor is that she got a rhinoplasty procedure which has improved the overall look of her entire face. A good nose job can certainly do that. It's probably not too likely that the nose job - if indeed that rumor is true - is the reason that Kobe and Vanessa Bryant appear to be happy in their marriage right now. Plastic surgery can do a lot of things to improve confidence, self esteem and the way that people respond to you but it's not going to fix troubled relationships! Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Alicia Duvall's Daughter
Alicia Duvall is a UK television actress who is probably more widely known for the number of plastic surgery procedures that she has gotten done than she is for the work that she has done as an actress. It wasn't that long ago that Duvall made headlines for planning to get her fourteenth breast surgery. In total, she claims that she has had more than fifty different plastic surgery procedures. New reports indicate that Duvall's daughter has picked up on this love of plastic surgery and that she is strongly interested in getting plastic surgery herself. She is specifically interested in getting her breasts done. However, she's going to have to wait awhile until she is fully developed before she's going to be able to get that done; she is only twelve years old right now. This has caused some controversy around Duvall. Many say that she shouldn't be encouraging her daughter to get plastic surgery. In her defense, she has suggested that her daughter wait until at least age sixteen before getting plastic surgery. By then, perhaps, her daughter will want to hold off on plastic surgery all together. Only time will tell. Question of the Day: Is it wrong for a celebrity actress to encourage her young daughter to consider plastic surgery? photo link

Plastic Surgery on Celebrity Body Doubles
We hear all of the time about celebrity plastic surgery. But why get plastic surgery when you can get someone else to do it for you? An actress and model name Rachel Carr has revealed that she was the celebrity body double for a number of famous celebrities including Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. And yes, she's had plastic surgery to be able to do this kind of work. Carr reveals that a majority of the time when you see a celebrity's body looking perfect on a television commercial or a movie, it's probably not the celebrity that you think it is who is in the shot. Unless you can see the star's head in the image, you should probably assume that it's a celebrity body double who is getting paid a whole lot of money to look a lot like the real star - only better. Carr says that she hasn't had to get a whole lot of plastic surgery done to be able to provide the perfect body to be used in videos by such famous people. However, she has had her breasts done twice and she has gotten her rear end sculpted. Question of the Day: How often is a celebrity's body replaced by a celebrity body double?

Bad Plastic Surgery Documentary
Yesterday we wrote about a doctor in Europe who was under arrest for performing really bad plastic surgery and causing some serious harm to his patients. This isn't common in the world of plastic surgery where most procedures go as they are supposed to. However, bad plastic surgery does happen. And you can now learn all about it through a documentary about the issue. America the Beautiful is a documentary film which opens in theatres today and which gives people a chance to look inside the world of bad plastic surgery. This is certainly an eye-opening documentary about all of the things that can go wrong when you get plastic surgery. Of course, it comes from the perspective of purposely exploring when things go wrong so the information should be taken with a grain of salt - remember that most plastic surgery procedures aren't like this! But there's definitely an interesting topic covered here and perhaps one worth seeing on the big screen. Question of the Day: What percentage of plastic surgery is bad plastic surgery? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Kathy Griffin
Kathy Griffin is known for being a D-List celebrity. She is also known for getting celebrity plastic surgery in the past, a subject which she has regularly used as fodder for her comedy routines. However, she won't be causing audiences to laugh about this topic anymore because she swears that she is done getting celebrity plastic surgery. Basically Griffin found that she didn't achieve any amazing results after getting plastic surgery. She didn't feel better about herself as a result of getting plastic surgery. And she has realized that her body type is perfectly fine for the average world - it's just not your Hollywood body. If Kathy Griffin were on the A-List then she might be interested in getting more celebrity plastic surgery. At that level, your looks are almost everything. But for Kathy Griffin and the D-List, it's okay to skip the plastic surgery and just be okay with how you are. Or not okay with it, apparently, since she must have some level of discontent to be dissatisfied both with and without plastic surgery! Question of the Day: Do A-List celebrities need plastic surgery more than D-List celebrities do? photo link
