Eyelid surgery is one of the top five plastic surgery procedures performed in the United States each year. This is due to the fact that aging around the eyes is one of the quickest ways for a person to begin to look old. Repairing that aging is one of the easiest plastic surgery procedures for those people who seek an anti-aging plastic surgery treatment. However, research indicates that the methods of plastic surgery for the eyes that are being used by most plastic surgeons are not sufficient to meeting the goals of the patient.
The problem is that we have only recently come to realize that fat under the eyes grows with age and that this is a significant factor in making eyes look older. Most doctors do not remove fat from the eye when doing eyelid surgery. The laws of gravity are such that this means that eyelid surgery today may not be as long-lasting as it could be if plastic surgeons removed fat from the eye when doing this surgery.
