There is an article in the Chicago Tribune this week which discusses the definition of beauty from the perspective of a Korean woman who was raised as an adoptee by white parents. One of the topics discussed throughout this article is the popularity of plastic surgery in Korea right now.
The author reports that one of the most popular forms of plastic surgery in Korea today is the surgery that is used to reshape the eyelids and give a new shape to the eyes. This eye surgery is popular with both men and women and is intended to open the eyes up so that they appear wider and so that the patient has a more "Western" appearance.
The author also reports that other popular plastic surgery procedures in Korea (in both celebrity plastic surgery and standard plastic surgery) are designed to give a more Western look to the patient. These surgeries include a slimming of the jawline and a reshaping of the nose.
Question of the Day: Is it a positive or negative thing that Korean celebrities and residents are getting plastic surgery to look more Westernized?
