Spare Your Nipples When Getting Breast Cancer Treatment
The majority of people who go to a plastic surgeon in order to discuss plastic surgery for their breasts are going to discuss either a breast augmentation or a breast lift. Some are going to talk about a breast reduction. However, there is an underserved area of the population that is also seeking breast plastic surgery - women who are seeking reconstructive surgery for their breasts after damage to the breasts caused by treatment for breast cancer. There are many different issues related to this topic. One of the problems is that the surgery that is performed usually removes chunks of the breast including the nipple making it very difficult to adequately reconstruct the breast during plastic surgery. However, it is possible to spare the nipple during many breast cancer treatment procedures. Learn more about this here (including how to watch an upcoming procedure of this kind). Question of the Day: How important is it to spare the nipple when doing breast cancer treatment for women who will eventually want breast reconstructive surgery? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery Rumor: Megan Fox
There are rumors floating around out there that stunning actres Megan Fox may have gotten a breast augmentation. Awful Plastic Surgery shows "before and after" pictures that do indeed make it look as though perhaps Fox's breasts have been surgically enlarged in the recent past. The plastic surgery blog goes on to hypothesize that Megan Fox's breast augmentation was done with saline breast implants rather than with silicone breast implants due to the fact that her breasts hang a bit awkwardly which is more likely to be the case with saline than it is with silicone. The rumors about Megan Fox's possible breast augmentation are just that - rumors that have been unconfirmed. This isn't the first time that Fox has been the subject of celebrity plastic surgery rumors either - in the past she was rumored to have gotten a nose job. Question of the Day: Has Megan Fox had celebrity plastic surgery? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Joan Collins
Joan Collins is a well-known actress who has appeared in a number of different things but who is probably best known for her long-time role on Dynasty. She is getting up there in age - she's 75 years old now. And every thing that you see when you look at her is natural. Collins says that she has no interest in getting celebrity plastic surgery. She admits that her face has changed over the years and that it shows signs of aging. However, she says that she doesn't like the idea of looking younger than she actually is. Collins claims that she enjoys the imperfections of her body and the ways in which her features have changed as she has gotten older. She seems to be one of those people who believes that her lines and wrinkles show that she has lived. It takes an impressive amount of self-confidence to be able to accept the changes that your body goes through with time. Many other celebrities wouldn't be able to reach this age without caving in to the temptation to get plastic surgery. Of course, when you look like Joan Collins, maybe you don't need to worry about aging! Question of the Day: Is Joan Collins right to not get celebrity plastic surgery at her age? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery Rumor: Tea Leoni
Awful Plastic Surgery speculates that actress Tea Leoni is trying not to age. It is suggested that she has probably gotten some type of plastic surgery over the years to alter her face in a way that reduces the appearance of aging. It is unclear whether the cosmetic surgery that she may have gotten was invasive or non-invasive ... or for that matter whether or not she got it at all. The signs pointed to in the article suggesting that Tea Leoni has gotten celebrity plastic surgery include:
- Changes to the nose which suggest that she may have gotten some type of rhinoplasty.
- Reduction in the size of her eyes which could potentially be from dermal fillers around the face or some sort of implant in the face.
- Lack of wrinkling in her forehead and around her eyes. This suggests the possibility of a facelift or browlift or perhaps the regular use of dermal fillers to prevent wrinkles.
None of these speculations is confirmed but photographs of Tea Leoni aging show that she doesn't seem to be aging quite like the average person on the street today. Question of the Day: Has Tea Leoni gotten celebrity plastic surgery? photo link

Ear Injury May Require Prosthetic Ears
People who suffer from an injury to the ear may need to consider getting plastic surgery to attach a prosthetic ear depending upon the type and extent of the damage done during the injury. The prosthetic ear can improve both hearing and speech recognition for many of these patients according to a recently-completed report.
When the outer ear, also called the pinna, is removed surgically or significantly damaged by trauma, patients may require prosthetic ears, according to the article. The authors describe the situation faced by these patients: "Their external auditory canal is usually intact, and the remainder of their auditory system should function normally," they say. "In these patients, the physician must strive not only to correct the aesthetic defect caused by the missing pinna but also to correct the hearing loss caused by its absence." (source)
In other words, it is necessary to get plastic surgery for damage to the ear for purposes of both improving the appearance of the individual who has suffered ear damage and also improving the function of the year by enhancing what remains of the original ear. Celebrity Plastic Surgery: David Gest
David Gest is an American television producer who has been a star on UK reality TV shows but who is best known for the two big mistakes of his life: a brief bad marriage to Liza Minelli and a series of bad plastic surgery procedures done in the 1980's by the same plastic surgeon who worked on Michael Jackson. Gest has said that some of the procedures that he got done during this time included: - Rhinoplasty. - Face Lift. - Cheek Implants. - Creation of a Cleft Chin. Gest has also said that he regrets getting this celebrity plastic surgery. He attributes the decision to get palstic surgery to low self-esteem and a poor self-image, things that simply can't be fixed by fixing your nose no matter how good of a plastic surgeon you get to do the work. Question of the Day: Was David Gest's celebrity plastic surgery bad plastic surgery? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Jocelyne in the News
If you are someone who takes a morbid interest in really bad plastic surgery then you are no doubt familiar with the name Jocelyne Wildenstein. Known better as "The Cat Woman" she has had numerous plastic surgery procedures over the years in an effort to look more feline and she's just ended up looking freaky. She is the poster child for bad plastic surgery. And she's still out and about in the world, unafraid to show her face in spite of the fact that many people feel that she is a plastic surgery nightmare. She was spotted recently having lunch with her fashion design partner. The headline that ran with the photo was "Jocelyne is a Scary Date" and the gist of the article was that she's looking worse than ever before. The truth is that she's not really looking worse than before. The damage has been done and she looks about the same level of bad as she did in the past. The lesson can still be learned from her though that you should carefully think through the results of your planned plastic surgery and whether or not they are realistic. Question of the Day: Is Jocelyne Wildenstein the world's worst case of bad plastic surgery? photo link

Newcastle is the Place to Get UK Plastic Surgery
If you are in the UK and you are interested in getting plastic surgery then there is a good chance that you are going to get that plastic surgery done in Newcastle. A new report has shown that more people in Newcastle are getting plastic surgery than in other parts of the UK. There could be a variety of different reasons for this which may all contribute to one another. For example, an increased availability of good plastic surgeons in the area may make it easier for people who are interested in plastic surgery to get work done. In turn, those people make it more socially acceptable for others to get the plastic surgery that they desire. More people then demand plastic surgery in the area and more plastic surgeons crop up to accommodate the needs of those people. The report went further than just finding out that people were getting plastic surgery done. It also looked at what type of plastic surgery was being requested in Newcastle. The biggest request was for breast augmentations. The most common size of breast that women increased to with plastic surgery was a C cup. Question of the Day: Why is Newcastle the place in the UK where most people are getting plastic surgery done? photo link

People Would Get Plastic Surgery if It was Free
What would motivate you to get plastic surgery? For a lot of people, the answer is a lower cost. Specifically, if plastic surgery were free, a majority of people would probably choose to get some work done. This indicates that a lot of people wish that they could get plastic surgery but they don't feel like it's worth the cost. This could be because they have other priorities in their lives that take precedence over their apperance. Or it could be that they are afraid to give themselves what they really want. After all, money is a convenient excuse for not making ourselves happy. If we don't have enough money then we don't have to do what we really want to do because we have to spend our time working instead. A study has shown that eighty five percent of U.S. residents would get facial plastic surgery if the procedure was free. That means that there are a lot of people out there who are making excuses about why they can't get the plastic surgery that they actually really do want to get. Question of the Day: Are you someone who would get plastic surgery if it was offered to you for free? photo link

Back Lift Emerging As Great New Procedure
For people who are interested in keeping themselves trim and fit all over, one of the most frustrating areas of the body can sometimes be the back. With age, we often find that fat gathers on the back and creates a lumpy appearance that is difficult to get rid of even with regular exercise and a good diet. This can mean that some people who otherwise feel confident in their bodies are uncomfortable because of how their backs look. A new surgery that is rapidly gaining in popularity could reduce this problem. It's a back lift in which the back of the body is smoothed out. Women will find that they can be comfortable with getting this type of procedure in part because the scar from the back lift is hidden in the area beneath the bra strap on the back so it is unlikely to ever be seen. A small study of women who got this plastic surgery procedure done found that they were all satisfied with the results. The recovery time was quick and the procedure had very few complications associated with it. Question of the Day: Have you ever wondered if there was plastic surgery to get rid of the fat on your back? photo link

People Want a Specialty Surgeon For Facial Plastic Surgery
If you are going to get plastic surgery for your face, you have two basic options for the plastic surgeon that you choose to use when getting this kind of work done. The first is to go with a general plastic surgeon who is trained in doing all different types of plastic surgery. The second is to choose a facial plastic surgeon who specializes specifically in working on the face. The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) has completed a study that shows that the majority of Americans are concerned enough about getting great results from facial plastic surgery that they will take the time to find a doctor that specializes in this type of work. The general plastic surgeon may be skilled in the procedures that you are seeking (face lift surgery, for example) but the facial plastic surgeon will have additional expertise which some people consider to be important enough to pay extra for if they can find it. Question of the Day: Would you seek out a specialty facial plastic surgeon if you were getting facial plastic surgery? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Heidi Fleiss
Heidi Fleiss, better known as The Hollywood Madam, gained a lot of attention for her career as the high-profile pimp who refused to reveal who the clients of her major prostitution ring were. She also gained attention from the celebrity plastic surgery tabloids because of some bad plastic surgery that she got - a lip augmentation of some sort went seriously wrong. That famous problem of hers is showcased - along with many of her other troublesome exploits - in a new documentary movie about her life called Heidi Fleiss: The Would-Be Madam. This film reportedly does an accurate job of really showing Fleiss as she spirals out of control and includes the bad plastic surgery as just one sad aspect to a continually sad existence. Question of the Day: What do you think of Heidi Fleiss and her former plastic surgery problems? photo link

Buy Now, Pay Later Plastic Surgery
Things are changing in the world of plastic surgery due to a direct relationship with the economic problems that many people are facing today. Some people are cutting back on plastic surgery or choosing to get less expensive non-invasive procedures done to see some of the results that they want at a lower cost. Other people are choosing to go ahead and get the plastic surgery that they are seeking with the assistance of financial plans which are increasingly available to those people who can not afford the high cost of plastic surgery outright. More and more plastic surgeons are working with lenders to allow their patients to get approved for a credit loan that will cover the cost of the plastic surgery. This means that there are some places where you can go in, get approved, get the plastic surgery that you want and then pay it off in payments over an extended period of time. While there are obvious benefits to this because it allows you to get the plastic surgery that you're seeking even when you can't really afford it, the drawbacks are also obvious. People will be paying interest in plastic surgery procedures and may find payments difficult to make over time depending on what takes place with the economy. Question of the Day: What do you think about credit financing for plastic surgery? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Hugh Grant
Celebrity gossip blog Gloss Lip points out today is the day to wish Hugh Grant a Happy Birthday. The actor is now forty eight years old. He's looking mighty good for his age but since he's pushing towards the big 5-0, there's a good chance that he's at least thinking about getting some celebrity plastic surgery. Last year it came out that although Grant was undecided about how he felt about getting plastic surgery himself, he really found the whole idea of plastic surgery to be somewhat sexually appealing. He discussed the fact that although there is some bad plastic surgery out there, there's a lot of great enhancements that he really almost fetishizes with a lust for those who have gotten them. So he likes the idea of plastic surgery on others and may want to get some himself one day. What would he need to get? Others have suggested that the first thing he might want to look at having done is an eyelid lift because it's the droopiness of his eyes that is really starting to reveal his true age. Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Jennifer Grey
Jennifer Grey is best known for her role as "Baby" in the film Dirty Dancing (with the infamous line about not putting Baby in a corner). She has also been known in recent years for becoming a victim of bad celebrity plastic surgery. Awful Plastic Surgery reports that they feel it was bad enough when she got a nose job that considerably changed her appearance but that they think she has really gone too far now with some sort of plastic surgery that has tightened up her forehead and caused tilting at the corners of her eyes. It isn't clear whether Grey really did get new plastic surgery recently. She had said after the bad nose job that she felt that getting the plastic surgery was the worst mistake of her life so you would think that she might not want to take that chance again but perhaps finding a better surgeon did make her choose to take that chance. Question of the Day: Is Jennifer Grey a victim of bad celebrity plastic surgery? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Leslie Ash
Leslie Ash is an English actress who is well known for two things. The first is her role on the television sitcom called Men Behaving Badly. The second is her trouble with bad plastic surgery in the past. Ash decided that she wanted to get a lip augmentation in order to get those sexy full lips that every woman wants these days. She got collagen implants in her lips. Unfortunately, the celebrity plastic surgery was not a success and her lips came out looking really wrong. She has been dubbed "trout pout" ever since. The experience might have made some women swear off plastic surgery forever. Not so with Ash. She has said that she wouldn't rule out additional plastic surgery (hinting at a possible future facelift) just because of this one bad experience. She also makes note of the fact that she seems to appreciate the American level of acceptance for plastic surgery. She says that there's still a plastic surgery stigma in England but that of course it's perfectly fine to get work done here in America. Question of the Day: Will Leslie Ash get additional celebrity plastic surgery? photo link

Less Invasive Breast Augmentation Procedures On The Way
Many women who are seeking to get plastic surgery are specifically seeking to get a breast augmentation. Unfortunately this is a fairly intensive surgery in spite of the fact that it is commonly done and considered to be safe for most patients. Some women who don't want to go through a long recovery period may hold off on getting a breast augmentation because of the surgery involved. Those women may be happy to know that there are two relatively new breast augmentation procedures being done that are less invasive and require less recovery time than does the standard breast augmentation. The first procedure doesn't entirely lessen the intensity of the surgery but it does reduce the scarring typically associated with the breast augmentation because of the way in which the procedure is performed. It's called the Transaxillary Incision and it uses an incision in the armpit rather than the breast when inserting implants which means there is no scarring on the breast. Therefore the healing time in terms of the appearance of the breast is lessened. The second procedure actually reduces the whole difficulty of the breast augmentation surgery because it doesn't use implants at all. It's called Macrolane and it's really kind of like a dermal filler for the breasts. It's not going to give a huge boost to your size but it can give some small size increase, reshape and firm the breasts and possibly give you the look that you're seeking without requiring the surgery that a full breast implant procedure would require. Learn more about both of these breast augmentation procedures here. Question of the Day: Would you be interested in breast augmentation surgery if you had multiple options for the types of surgeries available to you? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Cher
Cher is a woman who is often said to look stunning for her age. At 62, she has the energy and appearance of someone who is considerably younger. It's hard to say where that energy comes from (she's just started a three-year stint of regular shows at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas) but the good looks come straight out of the plastic surgeon's office. Make Me Heal reports on some of the various plastic surgery procedures that Cher has had (or has been rumored to have) in the past. These procedures include:
- Rhinoplasty. The first plastic surgery procedure that Cher apparently got was a nose job.
- Breast Augmentation. Cher got her breasts enlarged after she saw how great bigger ones looked when she was pregnant (many many years ago).
- Facelift. It is said that the youthful appearance of Cher's face comes from at least one facelift completed over the years.
- Liposuction. It is believed that Cher has had either a tummy tuck or liposuction over the years although those rumors are uncomfirmed.
- Fat grafting. It is further believed that Cher has recently taken to the popular procedure of fat grafting in which the fat removed from procedures like lipo is then moved to another part of the body (such as the cheeks).
- Noninvasive procedures. She has likely had a myriad of non-invasive cosmetic procedures including dermal fillers and laser tattoo removal.
And she stands out as an example of someone who can get a lot of different plastic surgery procedures and not come out looking plastic! Question of the Day: Which plastic surgery procedures do you believe Cher has had done and which are just rumors? photo link

Improvements Made to Lap Band Surgery
One of the most popular types of weight loss surgery is Lap Band Surgery. Unfortunately this surgery isn't easy on the patient due to the depth of change that it causes to the body. Plastic surgeons are working to make the surgery easier on patients while still obtaining the same positive results in terms of rapid weight loss. They have come one step closer with surgeries that have reduced scarring and reduced recovery time. The new approach that is being explored is to complete the entire Lap Band surgery by going only through the belly button of the patient. This allows for minimal scarring that is unnoticeable to most people because it is in the belly button area. It also allows for minimal invasion of the body which means that the recovery time for the patient tends to be shorter and the amount of discomfort experienced by the patient is lessened. This type of procedure is actually an advance that has been made to an already-improved version of the Lap Band Surgery. The original Lap Band Surgery is starting to be replaced by the "single port" form of the surgery which uses a single entry point for completing the plastic surgery procedure. In this case, the point of entry is the belly button. Question of the Day: Will the belly-button single-port entry method of Lap Band Surgery become the norm in this type of weight loss procedure? photo link

New Sizing System for Breast Augmentation Patients
You are interested in getting your breasts enlarged through breast augmentation surgery. But how big do you want to go? One of the leading reasons that breast augmentation patients cite being unhappy with the results of their plastic surgery is because they have chosen the wrong size of implant for the look and feel that they desire. A new sizing system for these patients has been established to reduce the problems that they have in choosing the right breast size. The new breast sizing system allows the patient to "try out" different breast sizes before actually getting the breast augmentation surgery. The system utilizes "tester implants" that can be worn under the clothing so that the patient can see how the breast size will look and feel as well as how it will be received by others. This allows the patient to make "mistakes" with the tester implants in order to avoid actual mistakes with the breast augmentation surgery. Learn more about this innovative new system from this report about the product. Question of the Day: Would you seek to use a "tester system" before choosing the size of implants that you wanted in a breast augmentation surgery? photo link

Robots To Be Used in Weight Loss Surgeries
Weight loss surgery is a popular surgery used by severely overweight people to reduce their weight by altering the size of the stomach. If you are someone who has been considering weight loss surgery as a method of weight loss, you may want to hold off until your doctor is in a position to get help from robots. It sounds futuristic but it is something that is being studied right now. Reports indicate that weight loss surgery patients who are monitored by a robot during the time that they are in the hospital are likely to spend significantly less time recovering in the hospital than are those weight loss surgery patients who are monitored solely by a doctor. That's because the robot allows for more frequent monitoring of the patient and therefore problems that may delay release from the hospital are caught more quickly and efficiently. This isn't something that weight loss surgery patients are likely to see happening just yet but it's definitely something that should be paid attention to by anyone interested in weight loss surgery. Robots are increasingly likely to be used as a type of support staff in the medical environment and this could be one of the areas where that may happen first. Learn more about the robots used in weight loss surgery here. Question of the Day: Would you be interested in telemonitoring of your progress by a robot after weight loss surgery? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Rene Russo
Rene Russo is an actress and model who hasn't been seen on the big screen much lately. In fact, she hasn't been seen much in the spotlight at all. But she's still around and the occasional celebrity photographer will stay capture a picture of her now and then. The most recent pictures of Rene Russo have people wondering as to whether or not she has gotten any celebrity plastic surgery. A comparison of "before and after" photos over at Awful Plastic Surgery ends with speculation from the site that perhaps she has had some minor plastic surgery done. It is rumored that perhaps Russo has gotten cheek implants, a procedure common these days among women who want to regain the youthful appearance of their face with more permanent results than can be achieved through the use of Botox or dermal filler injections. Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Helen Mirren
Dame Helen Mirren is an English actress known best for her 2006 role in The Queen. She is also an actress who is known for her candor, a trait which some people really appreciate and which others say should be moderated a bit in the interest of taste. Speaking of taste, she had something to say on the topic in regards to plastic surgery. She believes that discussing plastic surgery is tasteless. She considers it right up there with discussing gynecological problems and believes that plastic surgery (including celebrity plastic surgery) is something that people should refrain from asking each other about. However, she is someone who ultimately supports plastic surgery. Mirren believes that if someone feels bad about his or her looks and wants to improve those looks then there is no reason not to get plastic surgery to resolve the problem. She just doesn't think it needs to be discussed in public. Question of the Day: Is Helen Mirren right; is plastic surgery a private topic that people shouldn't be asking each other about? photo link

Celebrity Plastic Surgery: Mel B Commercial
You may known Melanie Brown better by the names Mel B. or "Scary Spice". She's the former Spice Girl who is now an actress and television personality. And she is now an actress who featured in an animated cinema advertisement in which she requests a breast augmentation. The advertisement is based on comedy and has some quick witty puns that are designed to make you laugh. They basically poke fun at the fact that Hollywood is so in love with enlarged breasts. But the truth is that it's what works in Hollywood! Mel. B supposedly is pleased with the commercial. She thinks that it's a fun piece that she'd be proud to have her friends and family choose to see. The choice to do this has made people interested in whether or not Mel B. has had any plastic surgery and whether or not she would like to in the future. This speculation isn't all that's being talked about in regards to the Spice Girl. People are also interested in the fact that Mel B. really doesn't talk to the other Spice Girls anyway. Celebrity Plastic Surgery Gossip: Talk Show Host Question
Gawker.com has some speculation today about which celebrity morning talk show host has an addiction to celebrity plastic surgery. Apparently there was a "blind item" indicating that someone in the world of talk shows has more than just a passing interest in plastic surgery. There is debate about who this platsic surgery celebrity might be. Gawker posits the theory that the plastic surgery-addicted semi-celebrity is either Julie Chen or Diane Sawyer. This speculation is based on the additional information in the blind item that the woman in question is someone with a "powerful husband". Both of these women qualify on that front and are reported to be celebrity plastic surgery addicts. The truth is that the blind item could refer to many different people. There are a lot of women hosting morning talk shows these days. And plastic surgery is common enough that a large percentage of these women could be said to have an addiction simply for keeping up with the times. Baby Boomers and Younger Generations
http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080831/FEAT05/808310316/1023 There is an interesting article at The Clarion Ledger which takes a look at what it means to be a female Baby Boomer today. One of the things that seems to be a theme throughout the article is that women in thier fifties today have a lot in common with the younger generations particularly in comparison to the relationship between themselves and their mother's generation in the past. One of the things that those women have in common with younger women is their young looks - due in no small part, of course, to the ease of getting youth-enhancing plastic surgery today. Baby Boomer women know that life isn't over when you turn 50. They also know that you probably shouldn't look 50 when you turn 50 if you want to be taken seriously in a professional or social world that continues to admire youth. Madonna and Kim Cattrall of Sex and the City are too oft-cited examples of women around that age who are still looking good. Those real-world women who aspire to that often have to get minor cosmetic surgery to achieve their goals. Question of the Day: What plastic surgery procedures are most common among Baby Boomer women seeking to stay in tune with younger generations? photo link

First-Time Plastic Surgery Patients Usually Influenced by Reality TV
You go to a plastic surgeon for the first time to get some form of cosmetic surgery or weight loss surgery. What do you think has inspired you to go ahead and make the appointment to get more plastic surgery information? Chances are that you have been motivated to do so after watching reality TV shows that demonstrate extreme changes to the appearance of the participants (such as The Biggest Loser or The Swan). One study has shown that four out of five first-time patients speaking to plastic surgeons about desired cosmetic changes are doing so after watching a reality TV show that depicts plastic surgery or extreme changes in appearance. The problem is that these shows typically show beneficial results without actually explaining the risks involved in the procedures that are used to make those changes. This doesn't necessarily mean that it's a bad thing to look in to getting plastic surgery after seeing someone's life changed by it on a television show. However, it is important to make sure that you are capable of distinguishing fact from fiction in regards to the results that can be expected and the risks involved with plastic surgery. Discussing the details with your doctor will help to clear up any misconceptions that you may have as a result of getting plastic surgery information from the TV. Question of the Day: What percentage of first-time plastic surgery patients are inspired by reality TV shows? photo link
