Breast Reconstruction Controversy

Science Daily is reporting that the American Society of Plastic Surgeons will be releasing a study showing evidence that injecting fat after breast reconstruction may be a safe alternative to fix any post-surgery problems. Breast shape after fat injections may reduce or remedy wrinkling, dimpling and other minor issues. The study will be released at the Plastic Surgeons 2008 Conference in November.

Although the study discusses the positives of fat injections for breast reconstrution, such notion and technique has yet to be approved for cosmetic purposes. The post-reconstruction injections may leave the breasts looking smoother, fuller and more natural, all the while maintaining safety for the patient. The “Should we Inject Fat into the Breast” discussion panel will be meeting and debating about the controversial procedure during the conference.
