Economic Woes Damaging Surgeon’s Wallets

The recent economic slump is taking a financial toll on plastic surgeons. Faces, stomachs and breasts are drooping nearly as much as the economy is. Potential patients are choosing not to indulge in costly cosmetic surgeries and instead save their pennies. Numbers of surgeries have rapidly decreased, some physicians say by nearly 30% in the last couple months. Although the exact numbers aren’t out yet, the general consensus among plastic surgeons is that their businesses are sagging and struggling.

Although the financial fiasco has put a wrinkle in the surgical procedures, the numbers for non-invasive temporary treatments have seen a steady increase. Since people aren’t dishing out tens of thousands for a facelift or a body nip and tuck, most are opting for more economically viable treatments like Botox or Smart Lipo. Pricey procedures may be dwindling, but plastic surgeons can’t complain just yet. Botox injections can cost hundreds of dollars per vile with a short 4-month wait time, and similarly Smart Lipo and other non-invasive practices reach up to 5 or 6 thousand dollars. The industry is still one of the most lucrative, aesthetic enhancements will never go out of fashion.
