The Italian government is beginning to implement more stringent plastic surgery laws for minors. Officials are hoping to sanction girls under 18 from having breast augmentation surgery. Welfare Minister Francesca Martini said today, ""We are considering creating a guideline which forbids mammalian implants to girls younger than 18," stated Martini. "It is often the case that the girls requesting for larger breasts are the most fragile of the bunch, easily susceptible to the messages of mass media."

Many countries internationally have opted to place more restrictions on cosmetic surgery for teenagers. Australia has implemented a ban against plastic surgery and solariums for youngsters under 18, while the US is doing the same for teenagers under the age of 18. Most pundits believe that the media, more specifically Hollywood, markets to swaying teenagers ideas about cosmetic enhancements, surgery and beauty. Similarly, physicians believe there are a number of health risks associated with teenagers and invasive plastic surgery procedures.
