What is LATISSE® ?

LATISSE® is the first FDA-approved prescription product which has been developed to promote and result in the growth of thicker, fuller, and darker eyelashes in just 4 to 8 weeks. Interestingly, the product was discovered accidentally when researchers at the pharmaceutical giant Allergan were developing another eye care product. When patients using that product reported significant lash growth, Allergan knew they needed to pursue that side effect, and LATISSE® was the result. The LATISSE® solution is intended to be applied on a daily basis for the duration of treatment. The product’s active ingredient – the one responsible for the growth of thicker lashes – is called bimatoprost. The reason it causes additional lash growth is unclear, but the results are unmistakable. Nearly 80% of users have reported that regular application of LATISSE® has resulted in the growth of thicker and fuller lashes, which usually are darker than those grown without the product.

Who is a candidate for LATISSE® ?

LATISSE® is an excellent option for anyone who wants fuller, thicker lashes without using excessive makeup or false eyelash applications. Although the product is applied on the skin and not the eye itself, because it was developed from a current eye treatment, even individuals with sensitive eyes have been able to use the LATISSE® product successfully. How is LATISSE® used?

LATISSE® is applied each day to the upper eyelids, at the point where the base of the lash meets the lid. LATISSE® is used only on the upper lids – not the lower lids. Before applying the product, you must wash your face and remove any creams or makeup. Contact lenses should also be removed. After placing a drop of the solution on the special applicator which is included with your prescription, the solution is applied to the lid. Be sure to blot any excess solution with a dry tissue. A fresh applicator should be sued for each lid, and applicators should not be used more than once. Certain individuals may experience some temporary redness or itching until they become accustomed to the LATISSE® product.

When will I begin to see the results from LATISSE® ?

Lash growth is gradual, and you can expect to see the first signs of your new look at about 4 to 8 weeks after the first application of LATISSE® with full results developing by the 16th week.

How many LATISSE® applications are needed?

LATISSE® is intended for use every day for as long as you wish to maintain fuller, thicker lashes. Once you stop using LATISSE® your lashes will return to their appearance prior to treatment in about 4 to 6 weeks. You will not see the full effects unless the product is applied each day for 16 weeks. Although the product is meant for application every day, it is worth noting that some patients have reported success in applying LATISSE® every 2 to 3 days, after the initial 16 week application period.

What are advantages of LATISSE® over other procedures?

The biggest advantage LATISSE® has is that it is the ONLY prescription lash growth product approved by the FDA. Currently, the only alternatives are the use of multiple coats of thick mascara, or the use of false eyelashes. LATISSE® is the only prescription product on the market which grows thicker, fuller, darker lashes.
