What is a Mini Facelift?
A mini facelift or an "S" lift is designed to help improve advanced signs of aging in
the mid-face, cheek, and lower eyelid. This procedure can help reestablish facial symmetry,
giving an overall lift to the neck and lower third of the face.
This procedure can be performed through two different methods, anterior or posterior. In
using the anterior method, it is individuals concerned with the lower part of their face.
The posterior mini procedure is sometimes referred to as the mini neck lift, due in part
that it is geared towards patients who want improvement in the appearance of their neck
and jowl area. For the most part, the skin is lifted form the underlying tissue and the
surgeon will operate on one side of the face at a time, removing a narrow S-shaped section
of skin from the area. The lifted skin and underlying muscles are tightened, repositioned,
and fat excised. The procedure takes under two hours to complete and is done on an
outpatient basis.
As with all surgery, the risks of infection, hematoma, and scarring are present. Although
minimal, all surgery has some risk- it is best to be aware and informed of the decision to
undergo surgery. Results can be long-lasting, depending upon lifestyle. Age, hormonal
changes and diet may alter the effects over time. Discuss with your doctor concerns you
may have, it will help you make an informed decision.
