Facelift (rhytidectomy)
Time, gravity and genetics take a toll on any face. A facelift operation, rhytidectomy, is
done to correct double chins and sagginess. Today’s facelift operation is long lasting,
involving permanent removal of accumulations of fat. Affected muscles and tissue are repositioned
and re-supported on the face. The overall effect is a younger, fresher and natural appearance.
Usually with a facelift many opt to do one of the following procedures to impact the face
list. Some of the procedures may include a blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), brow forehead
lift, mid-face lift, or skin resurfacing.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
In accomplishing the facelift, a procedure that is done to really enhance it is the eyelid
lift/surgery. This procedure takes eyes that are tired, aged, and droopy and brings them back
to life. The procedure can eliminate the fatty pouches that may add to these problems. Eyelid
drooping, is corrected by removal of excess skin, muscle and fat to take the possibility of
hindered vision away. There are several ways the procedure can be done, but Incisions tend to
follow the natural contours in the upper eyelids- the lower lid can be made on the inside, so
the possibility of scarring is minimal.

Brow and Forehead Lift
The brow and forehead lift can re-state the eyebrows back to where they belong, smoothing
out any deeply furrowed lines on the forehead. The use of a high-tech endoscopic method is a
big improvement to the older more invasive surgeries, due to the very small incisions required
along the hairline. A tiny video-connected scope is then passed under the skin; the tissues
repositioned, and secured into place. With this advanced procedure it is not necessary to make
antiquated, long incision across the top of the head and never remove scalp or hair. The
benefits are said to be brighter eyes, and a fresher, more pleasant demeanor.

Mid-Face Lift
The mid-face is the area said to be immediately below the eyes, nose and above the lips. The
mid-face lift corrects the sagginess in the center of the face. It helps the dark and obvious
circles under the eyes, enhancing cheekbone definition. The mid-face lift is accomplished with
only incisions in the scalp and inside the mouth, directly under the lip. Accomplished without
any scarring, the mid-face lift can be done alone or in combination with any other facial
procedures.

Botox
Botox is commonly used for the treatment of frown lines, forehead furrows, "crow’s feet",
and lines of the lower face. It has proven to be a very popular non-surgical treatment, with
injections responding to furrows caused by muscles—the muscles that are used with common
facial expressions, such as laughing, frowning or just by aging. The injections are effective
by relaxing the muscles that cause the lines so wrinkles smooth out. Patients immediately
resume normal activities without hesitation.

Skin Resurfacing
Skin resurfacing can use either laser or special chemicals to smooth the skin while
reducing wrinkling, and possibly even out the complexion. The newer Erbium: YAG laser, which
has proven to be a gentler alternative, has a faster recovery than the standard CO2 laser.
When you desire subtle change over time, it may be easier to do one procedure at a time.
Others who crave a more dramatic outcome will need the guidance of a very experienced surgeon.
Consultations with your surgeon will help to decide how the look can be achieved and more
importantly, if it is realistic. Video imaging may assist in facial surgery expectations, ones
that meet each individual's specific needs and desires.
With the development of anesthetic methods and monitoring - it is easy to do multiple
procedures at once and on an outpatient basis. When operating on an outpatient basis,
patients are able to go home sooner, and tend to have faster recovery times, saving time
and effort for both them and the surgeons. Consult with your surgeon to see how you can
achieve the goals you set for yourself through surgery. Remember to do your research, and
keep looking till you find the right surgeon for you.
