Cosmetic breast surgery has become very popular in the United States. Women have been able to achieve the figure they've desired through placement of breast implants for breast enlargement or breast enhancement. But these implants do have a few limitations such as:
• Your nipple asymmetry will not be improved
• Implants can't move your breasts closer together
• They can't lift droopy breasts
• They can't remove stretch marks
For droopy breasts you may need what is called a mastopexy, a breast lift. There are a variety of options available in breast implants; you and your plastic surgeon should discuss your options and surgery possibilities.
If you choose to have cosmetic breast surgery, after the decision as to what type of procedure, what type of implants, and the initial pre-op surgery applications are completed. Anesthesia will be discussed. There are a variety of anesthesia types. Your health, the type of surgery that you are having will all have a significant role in the type of anesthesia that is right for you.
Types of anesthesia
• General anesthesia
• Twilight sedation - conscious sedation
• Local anesthesia
• Regional anesthesia
After anesthesia is decided, your plastic surgeon will supply with a list of medications he does not want you take before your surgery. If you take a medication and/or vitamin/herbal supplement that is not on the list, you still need to inform your surgeon and follow his advice on usage before your surgery.
Medications
• Aspirin - this includes any product that contains aspirin
• Ibuprofen
• Tricyclic antidepressants
• Salicylates - any product that contains salicylates
• Certain vitamin and herbal remedies
Have reasonable expectations about the outcome of your surgery. You should purchase a few larger bras in the cup-sixe that you want to be after your surgery, but avoid padded bras. Drink a lot of water in the days prior to your surgery, this will aide you in warding off nausea after surgery brought on by anesthesia.
