Pacemaker Surgery

So you need a pacemaker and you're not sure what it is or what pacemaker surgery entails. Well, a pacemaker is implanted into the body permanently it is a small battery-powered device. This handy little device monitors the electrical impulses in the heart and, when needed, delivers electrical stimuli to make the heart beat at a normal rhythm.

If you have been diagnosed with bradycardia, a slow heart beat or arrhythmias, abnormal heart beats then chances are you will need a pacemaker. Pacemakers can also be used to treat certain symptoms of heart failure.

The device is small containing and an electrical pulse generator. The pacemaker is powered by a battery. The generator checks the heart rate producing tiny electrical pulses that assist the heart in beating at the correct pace.

• Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Pacemakers

In order for the heart to pump effectively the pacemaker is used to restore the normal heart rate, reducing or stopping the symptoms of abnormal heartbeats; symptoms that include dizziness, confusion, fainting, or fatigue.

You should also know that there are some devices that can interfere with your cardiac pacemaker, this is called electromagnetic interference. For this reason you always carry your wallet I.D. card with you.
