Surgery to reshape the labia and other areas of the vagina is becoming more and more popular in the field of plastic surgery. While most women undergo the operation for medical reasons, there are some who have it done just to have a designer vagina or one just like the models in Playboy and other such magazines.
In a labiaplasty, your external genital structures, the vaginal lips that are larger or uneven are shortened or surgically reshaped.
Some women have plastic surgery because their labia has gotten longer and hangs loose which is a sign of aging, and face it, women don't want to look old anywhere. The want to be tight and don't want a sagging or loose labia.
Another cosmetic surgery called vaginal rejuvenation entails the tightening of the vaginal and perineum area that is stretched during childbirth. Women who have had this procedure done claim that it increases sexual pleasure for both partners.
This procedure is usually performed under general anesthetic, meaning that you will be asleep, although in carefully selected cases it can be performed under local anesthetic which means that you would be awake and the area operated on would just be numb.
A typical vaginal tightening procedure will take around 1 hour to perform and patients usually stay in hospitals for 24 hour following surgery.
Recovery
Oral medications are administered and prescribed to reduce pain, as are oral antibiotics to reduce the risk of any infection occurring. Dissolvable sutures are used, so there are no stitches to be removed. All patients heal at different rates and react differently to surgery with varying lengths of recovery. Patients can expect the labia and surrounding tissue to be slightly bruised and swollen for several days to weeks after the surgery. Light activities can be resumed as soon as you feel capable. Strenuous activity should not be undertaken for 2 weeks in most cases. Sexual activity should not be undertaken for 4-6 weeks. The final result can usually be expected after 2-3 months post op. After healing, the labial incisions are very rarely visible.
