Vaginal Plastic Surgery

Pregnancy and childbirth can be one of life's most rewarding and beautiful experiences, but some women experience devastating side effects. In some women, childbirth can lead to vaginal relaxation and change in sexual function and sensation. If you have a lack of sensation during intercourse, are embarrassed about the appearance of your genitalia of enlarged labia, then vaginal plastic surgery may be for you. Your diagnosis will determine the type of surgery that you need.

Types of Surgery:

Cystocele is a bladder relaxation and this occurs when the ceiling of the vagina no longer supports the bladder in its normal position.

Uterine & Vaginal Vault Prolapse is due to a lack of support of the deepest point of the vagina. The deepest point of the vagina is where the uterus and the cervix actually enter the vaginal canal. If you experience a uterine and/or vaginal vault prolapse it is when the uterus comes past the vaginal opening this would be called complete uterine vaginal vault prolapse.

Labia Minora Reduction or contouring surgery - labiaplasty - is performed for patients who do not like the protruding minora. Labia minora enlargement can cause a number of functional problems for a woman including: discomfort/irritation with certain types of clothing: pain and discomfort with physical activities and intercourse. Enlarged labia can also cause problems like poor genital/body image which can limit your sexuality, physical protrusion with clothing in the genital area while wearing certain types of clothing, underwear, bathing suits: and/or a feeling of not feeling feminine because of the extra tissue in the genital area.

When this occurs, the labia are not simply cut-off or amputated, the vaginal lips are contoured by using a variety of sculpting tools including: laser, electric cutting current, scalpel, and plastic surgery scissors. You can have both of the protruding labia minora reduced or a single side to make it symmetrical with the smaller other side. Most women want their labia minora reduced to the level or below the level of the labia majora as well as having the darkened edges of the labia removed so they are pink and more youthful in appearance.

The labia reduction surgery usually takes about 1 to 2 hours. The sutures are made of a delayed absorbable material called Vicryl. These sutures usually dissolve in 6 weeks, however some have been known to last anywhere from 3-12 weeks. At which point they dissolve and the ends of the sutures fall off.
