How to Remove a Double Chin

Have you've ever wondered how to remove a double chin from a digital photo? Well it's just as easy to remove a double chin from a photo as it is in reality. Cosmetic surgery can help you get rid of your double chin.

The Procedure

Your cosmetic surgeon makes a tiny parallel cut under your chin, and then inserts a tube to retract the fat that has collected just beneath your skin. Then, he or she will make a perpendicular incision between the layers of the neck and jaw muscle and stitch the edges together, tightening the muscle layer.

It's a pretty painless process that requires two Band-Aids to hide. You may experience some minor bruising, but you should see improvement in about 10 days. This procedure can be done under either general or local anesthesia with sedation.

You can also have a chin implant done at the same time if necessary. Your surgeon will insert a solid silicone between your jawbone and the sheath of tissue that covers the bone. The implant can provide you with a more prominent jaw and further accentuates the angle between your jawline and neck and there is no additional recovery time involved.

After the Procedure

A small suction tube will be placed under your skin in the lower neck, to help reduce swelling and bruising. The small suction tube will be removed the day following your surgery. Stitches are removed from the hidden, under-the-chin incision between with 4-7 days following your procedure.

You should be able to return to work within a week of the procedure. If you are experiencing bruising, it can be concealed with make-up. Your neck may feel tight and your movement may be limited for a few days. You won't be able to drive your car for 1 week, but can resume mild exercise like walking after the first couple of days.

Numbness around the chin and upper neck will normally dissipate after the first week. Your incision will still feel a little lumpy, but this is normal. If you have a chin implant inserted, your lower lip may also be stiff for about a week following your procedure.
