Hypertrophic Labia

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces and/or reshapes the labia minora, the skin that surrounds the vaginal opening. In most women, the labia minora are seen only when the legs are separated. However in some women, large labia minora are visible when the legs are not apart, or are barely separated, causing embarrassment, self-consciousness, and distancing in relationships. Hypertrophic labia may also be noticeable in tight fitting pants, and can cause discomfort during intercourse, with clothes, or with exercise. Hypertrophic labia are usually congenital but may be increased from hormonal changes or childbirth. Labiaplasty is a procedure to correct this problem.

Problems Associated with Hypertrophic Labia

Due to having diminished strength of the vaginal walls some women experience incontinence. Also sexual enjoyment may be reduced as the frictional force generated between genital organs is decreased.

To restore your vagina's muscle tone, excess lining on the vaginal wall must be removed. Your surgeon will repair the soft tissues around the vaginal wall. This procedure will also decrease the internal and external diameters of the vagina.

Labia minor or the inner lips or folds are pieces of skin that protrude down between the labia major or the outer lips or folds. For most women, inner lips cannot be seen because they are smaller than the outer lips. However, some women born with an enlarged, elongated or asymmetrical labia minora, whereas others develop the enlargement with age or from child birth. Labiaplasty can reduce the size of your enlarged labia minor. A normal labia can improve your self-image and self confidence.
