Vaginal Reconstructive Surgery

If you've had your vagina removed because of cancer or other injuries, then vaginal reconstructive surgery may be for you. The biggest goal of this reconstruction surgery is to make vaginal sexual intercourse part of your life again. Nobody can grasp that unless they're faced with not having that choice in their life, but you have a choice now too. You will need to see a cosmetic surgeon if you want to have a vaginal reconstruction procedure done.

Vaginal Reconstructive Surgery

To create a new vagina, you cosmetic surgeon will use skin and muscle from other parts of your body such as a skin graft from your buttocks, muscle and skin from your inner thighs, muscle tissue from your lower abdomen or a piece of your bowel.

If your surgeon uses tissue from your lower abdomen or your thigh muscle to make your reconstructed vagina, the tissues will be shaped into a sealed tube and sewn in place. The blood vessels and nerves from these tissues will stay attached which will mean that you won't need to use a dilator to keep your vagina open. Soon after surgery, the new vagina will begin to function in the same way as your original vagina did.

If your new vagina is made from tissue that comes from part of the bowel, it can hold its natural shape and will more than likely be able to produce lubrication. But, there down side is that you may have an odor and a discharge when part of the bowel is used. This isn't always true for every woman.

Care for Your New Vagina

During the healing process, your surgeon will suggest salt baths or ask you to use a vaginal douche to keep the area clean.

Once the area has healed, the next step will be to keep your new vagina healthy. You may need to use a dilator to keep the vagina open. Your surgeon will give you a set of dilators if you need them.

There are numerous cosmetic surgeons in your area who can assist you with your cosmetic surgery needs whether it's vaginal reconstructive surgery or another procedure that you would like to have done, schedule a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon in your area today.
