An open Cholecystectomy requires that one large incision be made just under the right rib cage. Gall bladder removal surgery takes 1 to 2 hours. You will need to stay in the hospital anywhere from 2 to 5 days.
During the Gall Bladder removal surgery, your surgeon will check for stones in the duct that drains the gallbladder, and remove them as well.
