Excess tissues of the chest or breast area in men is clinically called Gynecomastia. Male breast reduction surgery is usually done as an outpatient procedure though each patient has unique needs. Depending on the condition of the unwanted tissue to be removed, liposuction may be the best possible option for removal , and the surgeon will simply make a couple of small incisions or use ultrasound assisted liposuction and/or skin incisions to remove excess glandular tissue and skin.

The Procedure

Male chest reduction usually takes 1-2 hours depending on what is involved and each patient has their own specific needs during male breast reduction procedures. In most cases, incisions will be made within or near the areola as well as the perimeter of the breast. The incisions will follow the natural contour of the breast and can be used to remove excess breast tissue, fat and skin. If it’s necessary, the nipple, areola, and underlying tissue are grafted to a new, higher location. A compressive dressing is applied to minimize swelling and discoloration; a drain may be necessary.
