My surgeon said I had inflammed Gall Bladder, need surgery, Why?

My surgeon said I needed gall bladder surgery, should I believe him? Why did he not give me any alternatives? Is this a money making procedure? My Mother & twin sister had a cholecystectomy, did not tell me how much & size. Should I do this?
